The DMV is one of the most active public service agencies in state government, serving virtually every New Yorker many times over the course of a lifetime. With over 2400 employees statewide, the department registers and titles over 10 million motor vehicles per year and examines and licenses nearly 12 million drivers. It also examines and licenses dealers, repair shops, inspection stations and driving schools.

The new plate number

The 3-letter registration class code from your new registration /plate order confirmation email

📝 We are here to remind that if you are driving in New York State and are involved in a crash, you must file a report of your motor vehicle crash if any of the following occurred:

- A person is injured or killed

- There is damage to the property of one individual (including yourself) that exceeds $1,000

- An e-bike or e-scooter is involved, and a person is injured or killed.
