*HISTORIC RAINFALL* This storm has exceeded two of the more recent well known rain events in Albany, both tropical systems. The remnants of Floyd in 1999 produced severe flooding, and Irene in 2011 catastrophic flooding for the Capital Region. While the location of the heaviest rain was different for all three of these storms, it is most likely the very dry stretch that we just had that prevented more catastrophic flooding today.

Community Update - Safe Passing Law

Albany County has enacted a new Safe Passing Law (Local Law No. "T") to keep everyone safe on our roads.

What Drivers Need to Know:

Give 3 Feet: Leave at least 3 feet of clearance when passing pedestrians, cyclists, roadside workers, and emergency responders.


Slow Down: If you can't give 3 feet safely, slow down and wait until it is safe to pass.

Bike Lanes: The 3-foot rule does not apply on roads with marked, usable bike lanes.

Obey Traffic Laws: Standard passing laws (like solid yellow line rules) still apply.
