Turn food scraps into something good for the community!

Residents in and near the Town of Colonie can participate in the Colonie Food Scraps Drop Spot, a program that helps keep food waste out of landfills and turns it into nutrient-rich compost.

The program was made possible in part through 2025 Albany County legislative grants from Majority Legislators Dave Mayo, Susan Quine-Laurilliard and Ellen Rosano.

Participants collect food scraps at home and bring them weekly to the drop-off bins at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. From there, the scraps are transported to VermiLiv, where worms help transform them into compost for healthier soil and gardens.

Tonight, the Albany County Legislature will hold its Public Forum and Legislative Meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Residents are welcome to attend in person at the William J. Conboy II Legislative Chambers in the Albany County Courthouse, 16 Eagle Street, Albany.

Public participation is an important part of county government, and we encourage residents to stay informed and engaged with the issues affecting our communities.

Today, we mark 25 years since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the families whose lives were forever changed, and the courage of the first responders, service members, volunteers, and everyday people who stepped forward in the hours, days, and years that followed.

We also honor those who continue to live with the lasting health effects of their service at Ground Zero and in the recovery effort.

Twenty-five years later, we remember their lives, their courage, and the spirit of unity that brought communities together in the face of unimaginable loss.

We will never forget.
