Albany County Legislators Susan P**o, Susan Laurilliard, and Ellen Rosano were deeply gratified to join Albany County Legislative Black Caucus member Danielle Gillespie for Albany County Legislature and Legislative Black Caucus Chairwoman Carolyn McLaughlin as the LBC commemorated Juneteenth. Albany NAACP President Debora Y. Brown served as keynote speaker, the Alice Moore Black Arts & Cultural Center performed a skit on voting and claiming your voice, and several local organizations tabled the event.
In addition, the Inaugural LBC Young Changemaker Award Ceremony recognized twin awardees Reighn Hannah and Lord Hannah, who were present to receive their awards, and Caleb Adjei, who was unable to attend.
The messages, camaraderie, and fellowship were all meaningful and moving, the food was fantastic, and the LBC is to be congratulated on a wonderful event.

The legendary and acclaimed Arch Stanton Quartet will present the free finale performance in its yearlong music and spoken word series "Exploring the Sheltering Sky: The Music and Words of Paul Bowles" at 12:30 p.m. on June 19 at the Albany Institue of History and Art.
The work debuted in October 2025 and has been performed at dozens of libraries, supported by a community grant from the Albany County Arts and Culture Program coordinated by the Advance Albany County Alliance.
"The Sheltering Sky," by Paul Bowles, is a richly layered novel, set in post-WWII North Africa that explores themes of depsair and estrangement.
Bowles was also an accomplished composer, and the program features reinterpretations of his compositions.
The Albany County Legislature is committed to cultural development for the richness it brings, for the understanding it engenders, for the economic development it supports and for the diversity it showcases, and we thank Daniel McCoy - Albany County Executive for partnering in these crucial programs.

The Albany County Legislature has approved granting $262,900 in Opioid Settlement Funding to Addiction Care Centers of Albany to provide school-based prevention services in three middle schools, Voorheesville, Berne-Knox-Westerlo and Albany Leadership Academy, helping to fill a crucial gap: this organization is already proving prevention services in elementary and high schools.
