After hearing about Sheriff Apple's decision to not seek re-election. I will say this: he is well respected and liked by both Democrat and Republican leaders. That's saying something given what I know about Albany County politics. Good luck to you Sheriff and thank you for everything you have done for our county.

We would like to thank the office of Albany County Comptroller Susan Rizzo for taking the time to facilitate and release this audit. The information inside it highlights serious problems on how Albany County's Ethics Commission is taking care of conflict-of-interest oversight and financial disclosures. Financial disclosures were late, missing, and unreviewed. Transparency and trust are two things that are very important to us. Reviews like this are highly important for recognizing weaknesses and working towards well-needed reforms.

An audit by the county comptroller found scores of financial disclosure forms were filed late or not at all. One official was referred to law enforcement.

This morning, Legislator Jeff Perlee spoke to the press in his role as Chairman of the Albany County USA-250 Commission to discuss events and opportunities leading up to the Nation’s 250th birthday and beyond.

Mr. Perlee told the audience that Albany “sits at the center of the most significant region to the Revolution anywhere in the country,” speaking to its role as the key target of the British Army before they were stopped at Saratoga.

“We have work to educate ourselves and educate the world as to just how important we were,” he added, also saying that he looks forward to working with local officials to welcome tourists from all over who wish to learn about our County’s rich Revolutionary history.

A bipartisan group of county legislators was pleased to present a formal proclamation to the Colonie Town Library Board in honor of the 50th anniversary of the library. Imagine the stories the library could tell if it could talk. Thanks to all those who have served there and consider taking advantage of the services it offers.
