FASNY’s Behavioral and Mental Health Committee was represented by Brenda Gausby at the 2026 New York State Su***de Prevention Conference, held Sept. 29-30 at the Ithaca Downtown Conference Center.

“Rooted in Action: Innovative Approaches for Rural Su***de Prevention” brought together mental health professionals, community leaders and experts to address the unique challenges facing rural communities and strengthen su***de prevention efforts.

Gausby attended to raise awareness of first responder mental health and the resources available through FASNY.

The FASNY Firefighter's Home is a special place for New York’s volunteer fire service, and Saturday’s Open House was a great reminder of why.

Firefighters, families, friends and supporters came together in Hudson for a day filled with community, camaraderie and plenty of fun. From the Chili Cook Off to the music, food and activities, there was something for everyone.

We’re proud of The Firefighter’s Home and all it does to support New York’s volunteer firefighters. Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Open House such a great day!

Today, we came together in Ossining, NY, to rally in support of increasing the tax credit for volunteer firefighters and EMS across New York.

This bill would provide meaningful relief to the 80,000 volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel across New York, helping offset the rising costs volunteers take on, including fuel, time away from work for training, and equipment investments.

Speakers at today’s press conference emphasized the importance of supporting the volunteers who keep our communities safe. As Assemblywoman Levenberg put it, “This bill is so important. It was an easy bill to pass with bipartisan support because we know how important volunteers are! Governor Hochul, please sign this bill.”

And as Senator Bill Weber said: “Now is the time for the Governor to do the right thing for our volunteer fire service.”

Thank you to Assemblywoman Dana Levenberg, Assemblyman Matt Slater, Senator Bill Weber, Congressman Mike Lawler, and Assemblywoman MaryJane Shimsky for attending and showing your support for this important legislation.

Now, we need your help. The volunteer firefighter tax credit hasn’t been increased in 20 years. Help us urge the Governor to sign this legislation and deliver meaningful support to New York’s volunteer fire and EMS service.
