NYS Department of State Division of Consumer Protection The Division serves as New York State's primary resource for information and enforcement of issues affecting consumers.

The Division provides voluntary mediation services for consumers and educates and informs consumers and small businesses across the state on:
(1) the prevention and mitigation of identity theft
(2) preventing scams
(3) product safety
(4) choosing and using credit wisely; and
(5) security breach prevention and response

The Division also represents consumers before state and federal utility regulat

ors. The Division of Consumer Protection (DCP) continuously advocates on behalf of New Yorkers to create a vibrant and safe marketplace.
