As we speak, Gov. Shapiro is in the process of announcing an Executive Order to impose some of the strongest measures in the country aimed at protecting our communities from unchecked development of data centers. I'm sure we're going to be reading a lot about this over the next few days. I'll post the link to the Executive Order below. Let's be honest about why Gov. Shapiro is making this announcement: the House has approved a myriad of proposals to protect Pennsylvania rom unregulated data center growth that the Senate has refused to act on. Or the Senate could approve ANY of the proposals introduced by their own members. Something... anything! Unfortunately, the Senate Republican Majority Leader is more interested in making Pennsylvania more competitive for data centers to be built in your back yard. I'm glad Gov. Shapiro is taking bold actions, but it's not enough. Hopefully the Senate Republicans follow the bipartisan work done in the House and also by the Governor and act before it is too late.

BREAKING: I just signed an Executive Order implementing the strictest standards in the nation for AI data centers — because I will not allow Pennsylvanians to be bullied by greedy developers and bulldozed by the lawyers working for these big tech companies.

Effective immediately, we’re requiring AI data centers to commit to strict environmental and transparency requirements AND receive approval from the local community if they want to build here.

That’s not all: We’re also removing ALL data centers from our Fast Track permit program and stopping any office or agency under my jurisdiction from signing an NDA with AI data center developers.

I’m putting these developers on notice and letting them know that we will not let them bully Pennsylvanians, disregard our constitutional right to clean air and pure water, and drive up our utility bills.

I’m using the full weight of my executive authority to block the objectionable, unwarranted projects and put the nation’s strictest set of protections in place.
