Did you know?

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, women working full-time in the U.S. earn about 82 cents for every $1 earned by men, and the gap is larger for Black, Native, and Latina women.

This gap compounds over time, impacting retirement savings, housing stability, and economic security.

Closing the wage gap is critical to long-term equity.

It's Advocacy Thursday and your weekly reminder to ensure you are registered and PREPARED to vote! With the Watson v. Republican Nomination Committee case yet to be decided by the Supreme Court, we should prepare for the worst case scenario - in this case, that may impact mail in votes! You may not have as much time to mail in your vote and votes received after election day may not count.

Are you prepared? If you have the ability - do you know where your polling place is? Are you registered to vote? If you have changed your name, do you have documentation of that change? While we hope for a reasonable decision, it cannot be expected and it is up to us to protect our civil right to vote.

Check out the blog post from today on the website and stay tuned as we build a Community Conversation about the VRA, your rights, what to do, and more in July 2026!

It's Women Who Inspire Wednesdays and our 2025 Women of Achievement Awardee, Mélisa Babb is one incredible leader!

Mélisa shows that women can serve in leadership roles, making real, tangible differences in our community through application of STEAM principles and skills. She has supported a number of actions to make the construction of housing more affordable in Anchorage, realizing that homeless and unstable-housed people tend to be minorities and women.

Nominations are now open for 2026 Women of Achievement! Empowered Women. Empowered Nation. Let's honor our local leaders! Link at our website and in out bio!

Did you know?

Elizabeth Peratrovich, a Tlingit leader, helped pass the Alaska Anti-Discrimination Act of 1945, one of the first laws in the U.S. banning discrimination based on race and passing nearly 20 years before the U.S. Civil Rights Act.

Her testimony before the Alaska Territorial Legislature helped dismantle segregation in public spaces years before federal civil rights laws. During public testimony, she strongly stated, “I would not have expected that I, who am barely out of savagery, would have to remind the gentlemen with 5,000 years of recorded civilization behind them of our Bill of Rights.”

Alaska has a powerful legacy of Indigenous women leading change.

Did you know?

Madam C. J. Walker built a national hair care business in the early 1900s and became the first documented self-made woman millionaire in the U.S.

She didn’t just create products, she trained thousands of women as sales agents, providing stable income and entrepreneurship opportunities at a time when few existed.

She also donated to civil rights organizations, education, and anti-lynching efforts.

Economic opportunity is a cornerstone of racial and gender equity.

Over the decades, Lisa has worn many hats: each with their own flare but shared a common thread – her deep commitment to empowerment and community-building. She has been a small business owner, entrepreneur, athlete, coach, non-profit leader, advocate, and mentor.

Lisa’s journey hasn’t been without challenges—she’s a cancer survivor, a battle that has only deepened her commitment to living fully and helping other women do the same. As a mother and grandmother, Lisa cherishes her role in her family, nurturing the next generation with the same love and resilience that has guided her throughout her life.
