This Juneteenth, we pause to reflect on the meaning of freedom and the importance of community. We're grateful for the people we serve and the opportunity to show up for our neighbors each and every day.

While our shelters continue operating 24/7/365, our Main Office, St. Francis House Food Pantry, and 3rd Avenue Resource & Navigation Center are closed today in observance of the holiday.

As families prepare for a new school year, access to information and support can make all the difference.

Last week, our Refugee School Impact (RSI) program hosted a school registration event to help families enroll their children for the 2026-2027 school year. More than 30 clients were connected with resources, received guidance, and learned about opportunities through conversations with community partners who took the time to be present and answer questions.

We are grateful to our community partners who helped make this event happen. Together, we can help families begin the school year with confidence and support.

Last week, families from Clare House had the opportunity to visit Fire Station 5 for a behind-the-scenes experience. They toured the station, explored the equipment, and had all their questions answered by an incredible team of firefighters and paramedics!

The smiles, excitement, and sense of wonder made this enrichment and opportunity truly special! We're so thankful to the firefighters who welcomed our families with kindness and showed the importance of community partnership.

Thank you, Fire Station Five, for your hospitality and service!

We were honored to welcome Ms. Chizuko Mizushima, a harpist from Japan who has dedicated her career to sharing music with vulnerable communities around the world. During her visit to several CSS programs last week, her beautiful music brought joy, comfort, and warmth to all who listened.

At Catholic Social Services, we strive to care for the whole person, not only by meeting immediate needs, but by creating moments that promote the spiritual welfare of those in our community.

Thank you, Ms. Mizushima, for sharing your remarkable gift with our community. It was a true joy to welcome you.

A group of Westminster College students traveled to Alaska to serve, and we were honored to host them at Fresh International Gardens (FIG).

They dug, hauled mulch, and tended the soil alongside our team. A few hours of work left the garden better than it was when they found it. Every pair of hands that showed up made a big difference.

If you or your group are looking for a way to give back to our community, we'd love to welcome you! Please visit: https://www.cssalaska.org/get-involved/volunteer/

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is a lasting reminder of courage, selflessness, and the deep responsibility we share to care for one another with compassion and gratitude.

While our shelters continue operating 24/7/365, our Main Office, St. Francis House Food Pantry, and 3rd Avenue Resource & Navigation Center are closed today in observance of the holiday.

We want to extend a huge thank you to the Providence Alaska HR team for rolling up their sleeves and helping clean up the Clare House playground yesterday!

Their energy, teamwork, and commitment to serving our community made a big impact, and we are so grateful for their continued partnership with Catholic Social Services. Because of volunteers like these, families staying at Clare House can enjoy a welcoming and refreshed outdoor space for children to play and grow.

Thank you, Providence Alaska, for showing what community care and service truly look like!
