Congratulations are in order for the City of Sterling Heights! They're one of our four finalists for the 2026 Community Excellence Award. 🎉

Their project, "Homegrown in Nelson Park," combines community gardening, accessibility, public art, and sustainable design into one resident-focused destination. Because of their mini-forest, City of Rochester, Michigan - Government is now in the running for a BIG community honor. Please join us in congratulating them on qualifying as a finalist for the 2026 Community Excellence Award. 🌳🎊

From garbage dump to micro-forest, the thousand-foot parcel is now home to 290 native plants, including 52 canopy trees, 106 understory trees, and 132 shrubs. This project isn't just visually appealing, it also advances sustainability by restoring a native ecosystem on previously degraded land.

Can we get a round of applause for the City of Buchanan? Their Downtown Redevelopment Initiative has secured them a spot among our four 2026 Community Excellence Award finalists. 👏👏👏

Through this project, 90% of Buchanan's critical infrastructure was replaced and the downtown is bustling because of it. The community is now in the midst of an active summer schedule that includes a farmers’ market, a summer music series, and more. ☀️🎶

Did you hear? Berrien Springs is a 2026 Community Excellence Award Finalist! 🎊

What started as drawings and dreams are now becoming a reality for children in the Village of Berrien Springs, MI. The Drawn to Play project incorporated a highly original community engagement process in which kids were invited to attend a park event and freely draw their vision of a perfect playground. Village officials then used those same drawings to directly inform their park design process.
