We were invited to an incredible spread of coffee and treats this morning at Julian Woods Retirement Community as part of National Coffee Day. BCSO therapy dog Brody even got a pup cup! We enjoyed meeting and chatting with everyone, and we really appreciated the hospitality.

🔬🧬It’s National Forensic Science Week, and we’re taking a moment to recognize the incredible work of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit!

Long after the scene is cleared and most of us have gone home, their work continues.

Our forensic professionals are behind the scenes examining evidence, documenting scenes, processing fingerprints, analyzing details and helping investigators piece together the facts of a case. Their work requires extensive training and an incredible attention to detail because sometimes the smallest piece of evidence can make the biggest difference.

They don’t always get the spotlight, but their work speaks for victims and helps bring answers when our community needs it the most.

Request for Information: Stolen Vehicle

Buncombe County, NC (September 22, 2026) Detectives with the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office are working to locate the stolen black Subaru pictured below with NC tag HKR3199. The vehicle was taken from a residence on Morgan Branch Road just befor 8:00 a.m. September 16th.

Our hearts and thoughts are with the family of Jason Hughes. Deputy Hughes was a part of our BCSO family for nearly eight years. He retired as a member of our DWI Task Force in April of 2024. He started with us as a Patrol Deputy in October of 2016.

Enforcement Major John Ledford: “Deputy Hughes was taken from us far too soon and our hearts are heavy. He was an essential part of our agency during his time here. This is not only a loss for his family, but also for his first responder family and the community. We are sending our thoughts and prayers to his family.”

DWI Task Force Sergeant Ronnie Davis: “The BCSO DWI Task Force is heartbroken by the loss of Corporal Jason Hughes. Jason retired as a member of our team in 2024, but his friendship with us will always be in our hearts. His dedication, commitment, and hard work for this team, agency, and community made us proud to have been able to know and work with him. He will be missed but never forgotten. He was a great friend who left us way too soon. God bless his family, friends, and co-workers. RIP X-3, Job well done.”

Request for Information: Stolen Tractor

Buncombe County, NC (September 21, 2026) Detectives with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office are working to identify two people who stole a John Deere tractor from the Hawthorne at Holbrook Apartments in the Candler community. The surveillance images are low quality but show the suspects along with a single-cab pickup truck with an extended bed. They loaded the tractor onto a dual-axle trailer around 11:20 p.m. on September 11th.

Congratulations to Major Jillian Banks on receiving her Advanced Service Award Certificate from the North Carolina Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Commission. This honor recognizes her 20 years of service as a sworn deputy. Major Banks has been with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office for nearly 30 years. Thank you, Major Banks, for your service and for all that you do for this agency and our community.
