It is going to be a hot one today! We hope to see everyone at First Friday. We have a lot of cool stuff planned... touch a truck, kids combat challenge, a rope rescue demonstration, and the smoke house (just to name a few). And don't forget Sparky the Fire Dog!

During the event, if you need medical assistance, please stop and speak to any police officer or fire fighter and we will provide assistance. We will also have water if needed.

Tomorrow night is Fire Friday/First Friday, and we have had several questions about where can I park?? There is street parking available on Carter AVE, Central AVE, Greenup AVE along with the cross streets. But your easiest parking is in the City Parking Garage which has FREE parking and is right next to the event area. You can enter the Parking Garage off 17th ST from Carter AVE and go up the ramp into the garage. The road will be blocked at the Alleyway for safety of the event, but you will have FULL ACCESS to the parking garage. So, you can come downtown and have fun for the Final Friday with Fire Friday. We have included a map below to help you find the entrance.

This Friday......dont forget.

This past weekend the Kentucky Fire Association Convention was held in the City of Ashland. Four days of information, service and fun. Firefighters active and retired along with their families came to our city from across the state. The conference even hosted a representative from Virginia State Firefighters Association as we try to branch out across state lines to share goals and information.

The conference was hosted by the Eastern Kentucky Firefighters Association which the Ashland Fire Department is a proud active member of. This convention was the culmination of 4 years of work and fundraising to cover costs of the convention.

Saturday started off with a presentation by Jon Ferguson, General Manager of ServPro, on the trauma of a fire and the aftermath. Then, comedian and public speaker Salty Paramedic gave an entertaining and interactive presentation on first responder mental health and burnout prevention based on his real paramedic experience.

On Sunday, the KFA Memorial Service was held at Legacy Church honoring those firefighters lost within the last year. Chief Alley and Deputy Chief McKenzie placed a flower for the two retired Ashland firefighters, Jeff Slone and Michael Hale, who had passed away.

Business meetings were held Monday and Tuesday mornings at the Venue in Russell and then they were off to enjoy activities in Ashland and the surrounding area. The golf outing was held at the Bellefonte Country Club, a Ladies Luncheon and Fashion show was held at the Ashland Transportation Center, and attendees enjoyed axe throwing, bull riding, mini golf, casino, and bowling at the Camp Landing Entertainment District. The Ashland Fire Department hosted an event at the Highland’s Museum and Discovery Center, and the ladies enjoyed a friendly, competitive game of trivia.

On Tuesday evening, the President’s Banquet & Hall of Fame Presentation was held at the Venue, in Russell, ending the conference festivities. Past KFA President and Russell Fire Chief Billy Selvage and Past KFA Treasurer Duane Suttles of the Grayson Fire Department, posthumously, were inducted into the KFA Hall of Fame.

The Ashland Fire Department would like to thank Kevin Busick and Kent Morrison of ServPro for donating snacks for the duration of the conference.
