“April showers bring May flowers” and in Ashland, that is something this community makes possible.

Each year, the hanging flower baskets that define our downtown are funded through the Ashland Beautification Fund. They are not simply seasonal decorations. They are the result of neighbors coming together to invest in the place we call home.

It is a small detail with a visible impact, creating a more welcoming, vibrant experience for residents, visitors, and local businesses alike. More importantly, it reflects what community philanthropy looks like in action: collective giving shaping the character of a place.

As the home of philanthropy, we’re proud to help steward efforts like this, where generosity becomes something you can see on every corner.

Imagine seeing a professional Shakespeare performance in your school. More than 1,700 local high school students experienced exactly that this spring!

Through the new Area Education Grants Discovery Series, Kentucky Shakespeare brought the The Tempest to students across Boyd and Greenup Counties, along with hands-on workshops that made the experience even more meaningful.

Creating opportunities like this is what AEG is all about, & we are excited to see what lies ahead for the Discovery Series.

Looking to strengthen your grant writing skills?

We are sharing an upcoming opportunity for Kentucky nonprofits to build their grant writing skills through a two-day, hands-on training in the Ashland on April 28-29, 2026.

Hosted by Kentucky Nonprofit Network and Grant Ready Kentucky, this workshop is designed for small, rural, and under-resourced organizations. Participants will be guided through the full grant process, from early planning to submission, with practical tools and real-world examples.

Participants will learn how to:
• Plan stronger projects before writing
• Respond to funding opportunities with confidence
• Develop key proposal sections including need, implementation, evaluation, and budget
• Build partnerships and strengthen competitiveness
• Use AI thoughtfully as a support tool

On day two, the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development will join for a Q and A on the new state GRANT match program and how it can help bring additional resources into Kentucky communities.

Lunch will be provided both days, and participants are encouraged to bring a laptop.

Registration closes Friday, April 24 at 12 PM ET. Limited scholarships are available for organizations where cost may be a barrier.

Our community is better because of leaders like this!

Congratulations to our board member, Audy Perry, on being named the 2026 Stephen G. Roberts Leadership Award recipient. His dedication to our community and commitment to service truly embody what leadership looks like in action.

We are grateful for the impact he continues to make and honored to have him as part of our team at the Foundation.

We are excited to announce that Audy M. Perry, Jr., Executive Director of the Heritage Farm Foundation, has been named the 2025 Stephen G. Roberts Leadership Award recipient! 👏 💚

The Stephen G. Roberts Leadership Award—named in honor of Stephen Roberts, who has served as president of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce for more than 30 years and previously led the Huntington Regional Chamber—is presented annually at the Chamber's Annual Dinner.
