Tuesday, August 4th, 2026 Media Release

Deputies from the Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to the following calls for service on Tuesday, August 4th, 2026.

The Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to Roy Avenue in The Plains for a report of suspicious activity. Units patrolled the area and observed no criminal activity occurring.

Deputies responded to Radford Road in Athens, for report of a suspicious person walking along the roadway. Deputies patrolled the area with negative contact.

Deputies were dispatched in reference to a report of a stolen bicycle. The complainant advised that his daughter's bicycle had been stolen from a park in The Plains. The bicycle was described as a black Mountain bike with silver lettering on the top frame and crooked handlebars. Deputies completed an incident report and will remain on the lookout for the bicycle while conducting routine patrol.

Deputies were dispatched to the Marathon Gas Station on State Route 329 in reference to a theft complaint. Upon arrival, deputies learned that a female suspect had used counterfeit currency to purchase merchandise from the store. A report was taken, and the counterfeit currency was collected and submitted into evidence.

Deputies were dispatched to Stewart, Ohio, in reference to a report of a potentially vicious dog. Upon arrival, deputies determined that one individual required transport to the hospital for treatment. The two dogs involved were also transported to a veterinary clinic for evaluation.

Deputies were dispatched to Millfield, Ohio, to conduct a welfare check. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the individual and determined they were safe and in good health. After completing the welfare check, deputies went back to patrol.

Deputies were dispatched to Millfield in reference to reported threats made toward an individual. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the complainant and completed a report regarding the incident. The complainant was advised of the process for obtaining a protection order.

Deputies were dispatched to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail to transport one individual to the hospital for medical evaluation.

The Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to a third-party report of a dispute. Units arrived on scene and spoke with the parties involved. It was determined that only a verbal argument had taken place with no threats or physical violence had occurred.

Deputies responded to Elliotsville Road, Athens in reference to a dispute. On scene deputies spoke with all the parties involved and determined no crime took place. The parties agreed to separate for the night.

Monday, August 3rd, 2026 Media Release

Deputies from the Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to the following calls for service on Monday, August 3rd, 2026.

Deputies responded to Featherstone Road in Stewart, for report of an active verbal dispute. On scene, deputies spoke with involved parties. It was determined that no physical altercation occurred, and no threats had been made by either party. Both parties agreed to remain separated within the residence for the remainder of the night.

Deputies responded to Bean Road in The Plains to assist the utility company with a meter replacement due to a confrontational homeowner. The meter was replaced and deputies returned to patrol.

Deputies were dispatched to Glouster, Ohio, to conduct a welfare check. After speaking with the individual, it was determined that they should be transported to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Deputies were dispatched to Stewart, Ohio, in response to a domestic dispute. After speaking with all parties involved, it was recommended that one of the parties leave the residence for a few hours while the other packed their belongings and moved out.

Deputies responded to North Plains Road in reference to two individuals setting up a homeless camp behind a business. Deputies responded and informed the individuals that the owner asked that they find a different location to stay.

Deputies responded to the Albany area in reference to a male wanting to file a complaint regarding someone mowing the bank on his property and ruining his drainage pipe. On scene deputies spoke with the caller, took a report, and referred the male to the Athens County Engineer's office.

Deputies responded to the Millfield area in reference a domestic dispute between a mother and her son. On scene deputies spoke with a male who advised that no dispute had occurred, and that his mother was not home. Deputies spoke with the mother and determined everything was okay.

Deputies responded to the Athens area in reference to a canine being struck by a car. On scene deputies spoke with the owner who advised their dog did get hit by a car, that the dog was okay, and that it was now inside the home.

Friday, July 31st, Through Sunday, August 2nd, 2026 Media Release

Deputies from the Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to the following calls for service from Friday, July 31st, Through Sunday, August 2nd, 2026.

Friday, July 31st

Deputies were dispatched to The Plains for a well-being check. After arriving, Deputies found out the subject was with family and was fine.

Deputies responded to Mush Run Road in Athens with reference to a residential alarm. Deputies made contact at the residence and found it to be a false alarm.

Deputies were dispatched to Buchtel in regard to a landlord, tenant dispute. Both parties were advised to keep separate, and to stay on their own property.

A female called into the Sheriff’s Office to report a possible protection order violation. Deputies spoke with the caller and a report was taken.

Athens County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to Goose Run Road in Glouster for a well-being check. Deputies checked the residence and did not locate anyone. There were no issues observed at the residence and no other means of making contact with the subject.

Deputies responded to State Route 550 in Athens for an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Deputies spoke with the caller and a report was taken.

Deputies responded to Beech Road in The Plains for an active fight. When deputies arrived on scene both parties were separated. Deputies spoke with all parties involved and a report was taken.

Saturday, August 1st

Deputies were dispatched to Glouster for a domestic dispute. After speaking with the victim, a report was taken.

Deputies responded to a business on High Street in Glouster reference trespass complaint. The individual had left prior to deputies arriving on scene.

Deputies responded to a residence on North Plains Road in The Plains with reference to a civil matter. Deputies offered the individual contact information for local resources.

The Athens County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit was patrolling The Plains, Ohio area and observed a male subject that had two active warrants for his arrest. Upon confirming the warrants deputies made contact with, Christian Thomas, and placed him under arrest for his two active misdemeanor warrants for his arrest for, Assault and Petty Theft.

The Athens County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit was patrolling the State Route 682 Athens, Ohio area and observed a male subject, Kevin Mehl, driving and had knowledge of Mehl having a warrant for his arrest out of the Adult Parole Authority. Mehl had attempted to reroute is direction of travel but was found at Slater Drive by the ACSO K9 Unit. Mehl placed under arrest and compliant with all requests. The owner of the vehicle arrived on scene to take control of the vehicle. Mehl was then transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail for his warrant of out Franklin County/Adult Parole Authority- Felony Violator at Large.

Deputies responded to a business on North Plains Road in The Plains reference to shoplifting. Deputies will issue trespass warning upon locating the individual.

Deputies responded to May Avenue in Chauncey for a report of an unauthorized use of a vehicle. Deputies spoke with the caller and a report was taken.

While patrolling, at the intersection of Lemaster Road and Hamley Run Road in The Plains, Deputies encountered livestock in the roadway. The owners were notified and arrived on scene.

Deputies responded to Brister Road in Coolville for a report of an overdose. ACEMS arrived on scene before deputies and the female refused medical assistance. It was later discovered the female had an active warrant from Meigs County. The female was later arrested and transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

Deputies responded to Ireland Road in Coolville for a 911 open line call. Deputies found everything to check fine and no assistance was needed.

Deputies responded to the Basset House in Athens to take a report regarding an incident that took place. Deputies took a report and returned back to patrol.

Deputies responded to State Route 550 in Athens for a complaint regarding unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Deputies determined the issue was civil in nature and directed the complainant to the courts for further assistance.

Deputies responded to Depot Street in New Marshfield for a male walking down the street with a machete. Deputies spoke with the individual and determined everything checked fine.

Deputies responded to the Stewart area to assist Ems. Deputies then returned to patrol.

Deputies responded to Center Street in Athens for a reported trespassing. Deputies spoke with the caller and a report was taken.

Deputies responded to The Plains in reference to a loud noise complaint. Deputies patrolled the area but were unable to hear any loud noises.

Sunday, July 2nd

Deputies responded to Euclid Avenue in Buchtel, in reference to a 911 hang up call. On scene, deputies spoke to the resident who advised they had not called 911. Everyone checked fine.

Deputies were dispatched to Coolville, for an alarm. Deputies searched the perimeter and found no suspicious activity.

Deputies took a theft report on Gun Club Road in New Marshfield. The case is still under investigation.

Deputies were dispatched to Albany, for reported sounds of gunshots being fired. Upon arrival, Deputies discovered it was a neighbor teaching his son how to shoot. They advised Deputies they were done shooting.

Deputies responded to a residence on Bean Road in The Plains to speak with an individual regarding vandalism that occurred in early July.

es responded to a residence on Ohio Avenue in Buchtel in reference to an abandoned vehicle complaint.

Deputies were dispatched to Chauncey, for a well-being check. Upon arrival Deputies couldn't locate the individual. After patrolling the area, Deputies returned to patrol.

Deputies received a call about threats being made. A report was taken, and victim was given victim advocates contact information.

Athens County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to Calaway Ridge Road in Coolville for a report of a mental health issue. Deputies evaluated the subject and they did not meet criteria for a mandatory mental health screening. The subject requested to be transported to the hospital for a voluntary evaluation to possibly fix a medication issue.

Deputies responded to Ireland Road in Coolville for a report of an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Deputies spoke with the caller and a report was made.

Deputies responded to The Plains area in reference to her wanting to file a report. Deputies took a report and returned back to patrol.

Deputies responded to the Glouster area in reference to an animal complaint. On scene deputies spoke with the caller and the owner of the dogs. The owners were warned for failure to control their dogs, and deputies returned back to patrol.

The Athens County Sheriff's Office assisted a motorist who ran out of gas on US 33 in Athens. The unit assisted the motorist in giving him a courteous ride to the gas station.

The Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to Dowler Ridge Road New Marshfield for a report of horses loose. Units found the owner of the horses in the area and all horses were returned back to their owner.

Deputies responded to Featherstone Road in Stewart, for report of an active verbal dispute. On scene, deputies spoke with involved parties. It was determined that no physical altercation occurred, and no threats had been made by either party. Both parties agreed to remain separated within the residence for the remainder of the night.

Deputies from the Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to the following calls for service on Thursday, July 30th, 2026.

Deputies received a report of a suspicious person sitting in a vehicle at a trailer court in The Plains. Deputies responded to the area and located the female. The female advised she had been waiting for a friend and had fallen asleep.

Deputies took a report for stolen medications from a residence on North Plains Road in The Plains.

Deputies were dispatched to Roy Avenue on a report of an active dispute. Upon arriving on scene deputies spoke to involved parties and found it was a verbal dispute and all parties are leaving.

Deputies responded to a neighbor conflict on Cooper Road in Athens. Deputies spoke with the complainant who only requested it be documented.

Deputies were dispatched to Mill Creek Road on a well-being check of a female. Deputies arrived and made contact with the female who checked fine and wanted no assistance.

Deputies responded to a well-being check on a resident that resides on Meadowbrook Road in Albany.

Deputies responded to the Guysville area for a landlord tenant dispute. Upon making contact it was determined the dispute was in reference to the landlord wanting to show the property to a new renter. The tenant was advised the landlord had the right to do this after giving proper notice.

Deputies responded to Lexington Avenue in Chauncey for a well-being check. Deputies spoke with the individual and determined everything checked fine.

Deputies responded to the Guysville area for a verbal dispute. Upon arrival contact was made with the parties involved and it was determined no physical violence or threats of violence took place.

Deputies responded to Mill School Road, Guysville in reference to a loud noise complaint. Deputies patrolled the area but were unable to locate any loud noises.

Deputies responded to Jacksonville in reference to a dispute. On scene deputies spoke with several individuals and a report was taken.

Deputies responded to Strouds Run Road for a well-being check on two individuals after the caller reported being unable to contact them by phone. While en route, deputies were advised that the caller had made contact with the individuals.

Deputies responded to Clara Avenue in Albany for a report of an active verbal dispute. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the complainant, who advised that the other party had left the scene prior to their arrival.

Wednesday, July 29th, 2026 Media Release

Deputies from the Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to the following calls for service on Wednesday, July 29th, 2026.

Deputies responded to Chauncey and Glouster to attempt to locate a male by the request of the Nelsonville Police Department in regard to a well-being check. The male was located and found to be okay.

Deputies responded to Nelsonville to assist them with an investigation. On scene deputies assisted Nelsonville Police with their investigation.

Deputies were dispatched to Spice Lick Road on an open 911 call. While en-route additional calls were received of a commercial vehicle accident that had occurred. Deputies arrived on scene, assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and returned to patrol.

A female came to the Sheriff’s Office to make a report about a theft. Deputies spoke with the female and a report was taken.

Deputies responded to Green Valley Road in Guysville for a trespassing complaint. A trespass warning was filled out, and deputies are attempting to serve as the male had left prior to deputies’ arrival.

Deputies responded to South Plains Road in The Plains for a domestic complaint. Deputies spoke with the parties involved and determined that no threats or acts of violence occurred.

Deputies responded to Harper Street in The Plains for a theft. Deputies spoke with the caller and a report was taken.

Deputies responded to Roy Avenue in The Plains to investigate a complaint. Deputies advised all parties that if they could not get along then they should not speak to each other. One party was warned for disorderly conduct and deputies returned to patrol.

Deputies responded to Lexington Avenue in Chauncey for an unruly juvenile. The female was later transported to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Deputies responded to State Route 78 in Glouster for a parking complaint. Deputies arrived on scene as the owner was moving the vehicle.

Deputies received a report of suspicious people outside a residence in Dover Township. Deputies responded to the residence and checked the immediate area for the suspect but did not locate anyone at that time.

Deputies responded to an inactive dispute in Albany. Units spoke with the complainant on scene. The other involved party had left prior to units’ arrival. No violence or threats were reported.

Deputies responded to The Plains in reference to a verbal dispute. On scene deputies spoke with all parties and determined no crime took place.

Tuesday, July 28th, 2026 Media Release

Deputies from the Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to the following calls for service on Tuesday, July 28th, 2026.

Deputies responded to North Plains Road in The Plains, in reference to a third-party report of possible domestic incident. On scene, deputies spoke to all parties involved. The parties advised that no physical harm or threats of physical harm had occurred. The incident was documented and deputies returned to patrol.

Deputies were dispatched to North Plains Road, The Plains for a well-being. Deputies made contact with the involved individual and determined they were safe and in good condition.

Deputies responded to Main Street in The Plains in reference to a theft complaint. Upon arrival, deputies were informed that a male stole multiple food items from a food stand along the roadway. A report was taken and an investigation is pending at this time.

Deputies spoke with an individual regarding reported threats. During the conversation, it was determined that neither the reporting individual nor the person making the alleged threats was currently in the state. The individual requested that the information be documented in the event the other person comes to their residence in The Plains.

Deputies were dispatched to Lafollette Road, Millfield in reference to a scam that was occurring.

Deputies were dispatched to Salem Road, Athens for a trespass complaint. When deputies arrived the could not locate anyone. After a short time, the caller came out and advised the individual had left the area and was not sure who they were.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Salem Road, Athens for a speeding violation. During the course of the traffic stop, deputies discovered suspected narcotics inside the vehicle. The suspected narcotics were seized and removed from the vehicle as evidence.

The Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to Ireland Road in Coolville for a threatening complaint. This case remains under investigation.

Deputies responded to Sweat Road in Amesville in reference to a 911 hang up call. Upon arrival, deputies spoke to the resident who advised everything was fine and no assistance was needed.

Deputies responded to Laughlin Hill Road in Athens for a report of several goats that had gotten loose from a nearby property. Deputies later arrived and found the goat back on their property and the owners of the goats were advised to keep their animals on their property.

Deputies responded to Washington Road, Albany in reference to a theft complaint. On scene deputies spoke with the complainant and a report was taken.

Deputies responded to State Route 550, Athens in reference to an unruly juvenile. On scene deputies spoke with several individual and determined it was best for the juvenile to remain in the home.

The Nelsonville Police Department requested assistance from The Athens County Sheriff's Office with a theft report. Nelsonville Police Officers were unsuccessful with making contact with their suspect in the theft. Deputies were successful in making contact and advised the suspect to contact NPD for further follow up.

Deputies received a call-in complaint regarding a civil matter. On the phone deputies spoke with the complainant and documented information.

Deputies responded to The Plains for a report of a male who had been involved in a stabbing. Upon arrival, contact was made with the alleged victim who had no injuries or explanation for his report. The male had been previously trespassed from this residence, was heavily intoxicated and unable to care for himself. Deputies transported the male the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on a charge of Disorderly Conduct by Intoxication, to be released on his own recognizance when sober.

Monday, July 27th, 2026 Media Release

Deputies from the Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to the following calls for service on Monday, July 27th, 2026.

Deputies were dispatched to State Route 78, Buchtel in response to a report of criminal damaging. Upon arrival, deputies observed damaged property and made contact with the caller. Deputies determined that a dump truck had struck the property and left the area immediately afterward.

Deputies were dispatched to Rhoric Road, Athens regarding a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies located the vehicle and determined it had not been involved in a crash and was parked off the roadway. The vehicle was tagged for removal after four hours. Deputies found the vehicle gone when returned four hours later.

Deputies were dispatched to Ellis Avenue, Chauncey on a 911 hang up. Upon arriving on scene, it was found to be a verbal dispute that had occurred and involved parties separated prior to arrival. Involved agreed to continue to stay separated.

Deputies were dispatched to a residential alarm on Meadowbrook Road, Albany. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a family member, who advised that the family dog had accidentally activated the alarm. No signs of suspicious activity were observed.

Deputies were dispatched to the Dog Shelter to meet with an individual who wished to report a possible road rage incident. Deputies spoke with the individual regarding the incident. The individual stated that no threats were made and was unable to provide the make of the other vehicle or identify the other individual involved. A report was completed for documentation purposes.

Deputies were dispatched to Toledo Street, Glouster, on an incident report. Deputies arrived on scene and a report was completed.

Deputies were dispatched to Haga Ridge Road, Stewart regarding a possible stolen bicycle. Upon arrival, deputies located the bicycle and checked its status through law enforcement databases. The bicycle was determined not to be stolen. It was left in the custody of the property owner.

Deputies took a report of an assault that occurred at the Marathon in Chauncey. The incident is being investigated.

Deputies responded to the Glouster area to the report of a private property accident. Deputies spoke with both parties involved, took a report and returned back to patrol.

Deputies responded to the GoMart in Coolville for a report of a hit skip.

Deputies responded to the Family Dollar in New Marshfield to the report of a female that was passed out in her car with a child in the back. The vehicle in question had left prior to deputies’ arrival and was unable to be located in the surrounding area.

The Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to North Blackburn Road in Athens for a report of an assault. Units arrived on scene and spoke with the parties involved and also witnesses on scene. Both parties were issued a citation for Disorderly Conduct by Fighting and was issued a summons to court.

Deputies responded to the Guysville area to the report of an abandoned dirt bike on the caller’s property. On scene deputies determined that the dirt bike was not stolen and tagged the bike for removal.

The Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to the Village of Glouster for a report of juveniles’ ding d**g ditching. Units patrolled the area and was unable to locate any juveniles in the area.

The Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to the Village of Glouster for a suspicious person. Units patrolled the area and was unable to locate the female in question.

Deputies responded to Beech Road in The Plains, for report of an inactive theft. On scene, deputies spoke to the complainant and a report was taken. An investigation is pending.
