Goodr and Kaiser Permanente teamed up to launch a free grocery store inside C.J. Hicks Elementary School last fall—and the results are making a difference.

Since the market opened, student absences have dropped by 43%, helping tackle chronic absenteeism while giving families access to fresh produce and meals with dignity.

This is what happens when we invest in families, students, and communities: healthier choices, stronger support systems, and more opportunities for kids to thrive. 💚

We’re looking for dependable, team-oriented individuals who genuinely enjoy working with and serving people. Strong customer service is a must, as this is a customer-facing role and creating a welcoming, positive experience for everyone who enters the market is a key part of the position.

Responsibilities may include greeting and assisting customers, operating the POS system and handling transactions, stocking and organizing merchandise, monitoring inventory, maintaining a clean and organized store, supporting deli/food service needs as applicable, and assisting with general day-to-day market operations.
Previous grocery, retail, food service, hospitality, or customer service experience is preferred. We’re also looking for individuals who are professional, reliable, able to take direction, work well with a team, and are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

Our “Food is Medicine” mobile grocery store, in partnership with Aetna Better Health of Louisiana, continued its tour with a stop in Lafayette Parish, bringing fresh, nutritious food directly to the community.

As Nikesha Rodrigue, Lead Director of Marketing and Community Development for Aetna Better Health of Louisiana, shared: “We know that you are what you eat, so we want them to put nutritious things into their body. Maybe they don’t have access to it, but that’s why we are here—to meet them where they are to provide that service.”
