Chef Laura Orellana delighted guests at the Atlanta Botanical Garden Thursday night with a dinner featuring ingredients from Riverview Farms in Ranger, GA.

Chef Laura's dishes demonstrated a wide range of pork recipes drawing upon her El Salvadoran heritage and culture.

Guests learned about cooking techniques and farm practices, as the informal dinner allowed for questions and answers.

Look for more Georgia Grown dinners coming to the Atlanta Botanical Garden this fall.

HK Farm’s agricultural legacy began in 1869 when Handy Kennedy purchased 175 acres in Tattnall County. Today, the family collectively owns and manages more than 1,000 acres, with fourth- and fifth-generation farmers carrying on the tradition while teaching the sixth generation to care for the land and animals.

The working farm continues to grow and diversify through beef cattle, industrial h**p, agritourism, educational workshops and farm experiences that help connect people with agriculture and the land.

We’re thankful for Georgia Grown farms like HK Farm that honor the generations who came before them while planting seeds for the future.

Dollison Farms’ story began in 1949 when Robert and Ethel Dollison Sr. laid the foundation for the family farm. Today, Ricky continues that legacy across 200 acres, growing row crops, fresh vegetables and elderberries while also raising cattle and hogs.

Through hard work, diversification and a commitment to sharing agricultural knowledge, Ricky is helping strengthen his community while preparing the next generation of farmers and agricultural leaders.

Today’s featured peach recipe is a sweet and satisfying Toasted Georgia Pecan-Quinoa Breakfast Bowl—packed with wholesome goodness and fresh peach flavor. 🍑

Ingredients
2 cups 1 percent reduced-fat milk
1 cup quinoa
1/3 cup dried cranberries or raisins
1 Tbsp butter
1/3 cup chopped Georgia pecans, toasted
1 Tbsp honey or brown sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
Toppings: Chopped Georgia pecans, toasted; milk, honey or brown sugar

Instructions
1. Bring milk to a boil in a medium saucepan.
2. Stir in quinoa, cranberries and butter.
3. Cover, reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes or until quinoa is tender and liquid is absorbed.
4. Remove from heat. Stir in 1/3 cup chopped toasted GEORGIA PECANS and next 3 ingredients.
5. Spoon 1 cup quinoa mixture into each of 2 bowls.
6. Top each serving with additional chopped toasted GEORGIA PECANS, milk, honey or brown sugar, as desired.

goes to the Goats! A group of Atlanta Chefs recently visited Decimal Place Farm and learned all about process of raising dairy goats and making goat cheese.

Farmer and longtime Georgia Grown member Mary Rigdon led the chefs through a day in the life of a dairy goat, from milking to grazing. Then she explained the process of making goat cheese and allowed the chefs to sample the different styles she makes fresh onsite.

The chefs were impressed by the level of care and quality of the cheese; we expect you'll see more Decimal Place products popping up on restaurant menus soon.

Haley Love is a senior at Jefferson High School. Growing up with severe dyslexia, school was a challenge. She began showing livestock in the seventh grade, which gave her confidence, purpose, and life-changing passion.

Two years ago, Haley started breeding her own show goats with the goal of staying in the industry that’s given her so much. She hopes to help other young people discover their own passion for agriculture.
