Attalla Fire & Rescue would like to congratulate Firefighter Garrett Gibbs on passing the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic examination and earning his Alabama Paramedic license.

This achievement required countless hours of classroom instruction, clinical training, field experience, and dedication. Garrett’s commitment to advancing his education and skills strengthens our department and improves the level of care we are able to provide to our community.

Gadsden first responders are continuing to assist with an incident at Tyson Foods (formerly Keystone) on Steele Station Road. Earlier this morning, an ammonia leak was reported and contained at the plant. The Gadsden Fire Department responded to the scene and is conducting on-site evaluations. City transportation vehicles are currently working to move employees off site to Church of the Highlands, and the Gadsden Police Department is directing traffic in the area.

On Monday, June 8, 2026, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Attalla Fire Department was dispatched to the 600 block of Morgan Drive NW for a reported structure fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a condemned residence approximately 75% involved in fire. Crews deployed handlines and utilized Quint 1's 75-foot aerial ladder to conduct fire suppression operations and bring the fire under control.

The residence was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

The Attalla Fire Department would like to thank all responding personnel for their quick and professional response.

This week, Captain Jonathan King, Captain David Griffin, Lieutenant Tyler Rose, and Sergeant Austin Correll attended the Alabama Fire College Surface Water Rescue Technician course hosted by Gadsden Fire Department.

This hands-on course focused on surface water rescue operations, hazard recognition, rescue techniques, and the skills needed to safely operate during water emergencies.

We are proud of these members for their commitment to training and professional development. Their dedication helps ensure Attalla Fire Department remains prepared to answer the call when our community needs us most.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter Adrian Waldrop on successfully passing the National Registry certification examination for Emergency Medical Technician and obtaining his Alabama state EMT license.

Structure Fire at Auto Repair Shop Under Investigation

Attalla, AL — On 05/01/2026, just before 10:00 p.m., Attalla Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 300 block of 3rd Street SW at Auto Doctor Vehicle Repair shop.

The first units arrived on scene to find approximately 50 percent of the building involved in fire. Firefighters immediately initiated suppression operations and were able to bring the fire under control quickly, preventing further damage to the structure.

Once the fire was fully extinguished, an investigation was initiated to determine the origin and cause. As is standard procedure for fires of this nature, the Etowah County Arson Task Force was notified and is currently handling the investigation. The fire remains under investigation at this time.

There were no reported injuries.

Attalla Fire Department would like to thank Gadsden Fire Department, Etowah County ESU, Attalla Police Department, A-MED Ambulance Service, and the Etowah County Arson Task Force for their assistance.

We commend the professionalism and swift actions of the responding firefighters, whose efforts were critical in quickly bringing the fire under control and minimizing damage.
