The 2026 Cayuga County Agricultural Environmental Management (AEM) Farm Awards recognize local farms that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainable agriculture, and the protection of our natural resources. Through voluntary participation in the AEM Program, these farms continually evaluate and improve their operations by implementing conservation practices that enhance soil health, protect water quality, and support the long-term viability of agriculture in Cayuga County. Beyond their environmental efforts, these farms are active leaders in their communities, supporting agricultural education, local organizations, and the next generation of farmers.

Recipients are chosen based on nominations from Cayuga County Soil & Water Conservation District staff and partner agencies, recognizing farms that demonstrate leadership in conservation and active participation in the AEM Program.

The 2026 Recipients of the Cayuga County AEM Farm Awards:

Elkendale Farm
Green Hill Dairy

Rest in peace, Jim.

It is with great sympathy and a heavy heart that I share the news that we lost a Conservation District Legend this week as Jim Hotaling, former Executive Director of the Cayuga County SWCD had passed away on June 22. For 43 years, Jim was instrumental in the advancement and promotion of Conservation Districts as the go-to agency to get conservation on the ground through locally led programs. From the Conservation District Training Session (now WQS) to the Envirothon and establishment of the CDEA, Jim worked closely with others to establish programs that would ensure that NYS SWCDs were considered relevant and had a seat at the decision making table. Even after his retirement from the Cayuga SWCD in 2008, he continued to support and promote the importance of the District. He was a great man and had an impact on many people.

Celebrate the life of James Hotaling and join others in sharing memories, stories, and condolences.

Tire Day 2026 is THIS SATURDAY, June 6, 2026! We will open up at 8 AM, and go through 11 AM.

Did you know... The Cayuga County Tire Recycling Program started in 2003. By 2022, we had collected and recycled over 100,000 tires! We are over 110,000 tires recycled now - and still rolling along!

One common question is if we accept tires on rims - and yes, we DO accept tires on rims.

So load up your old tires (please no nasty filthy tires, we DO have to handle them ourselves) and come on out on Saturday morning! Details are in the flyer in the previous post.
