💜🩵 Su***de Prevention Month kicked off this week. KCSOS staff are wearing purple and teal ribbons to raise awareness and remind those who may be struggling that they are not alone. KCSOS also supports school districts year-round with training and resources to help school staff recognize and respond to students’ mental health needs. One conversation can make a difference. Eleven individuals and teams are being recognized for bringing Growth, Engagement and Support to life across Kern County — from student champions and innovative educators to school leaders and programs making a meaningful difference. Honorees are from Taft Union High School District, Kernville Union School District, Norris School District, Delano Union, Kern High School District, and KCSOS. 📚 One hour a week can make a lasting difference for a young reader. The Kern County Community Reading Project is looking for volunteers to work one-on-one with local second-graders, helping them strengthen their reading skills and build confidence. Volunteers commit just one hour a week, working with students in 15-minute sessions. Volunteer training is scheduled for Sept. 10, from 9 am to 11 am, at the Bell Tower Plaza. Registration is NOT required. Come on by to learn more!

Fruitvale School District is helping students succeed by focusing on positive behavior and giving them the support they need. From calming corners to one-on-one support, schools are finding what works best for each student.

This approach is making a difference, with all Fruitvale schools receiving Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) recognition for improving student behavior.
