Congratulations to Emily Carter, paramedic, for receiving the 2026 Paul Knowlton Award of Excellence!

The award is presented to an EMS professional who inspires, teaches, and leads while fostering a culture of learning. Recipients are recognized for working well with others, going above and beyond for patient care, inspiring others to pursue a career in EMS, fostering a culture of learning, and more.

The award is named after Paul Knowlton, known as “PK,” who is remembered for being a mentor, friend, and leader during a distinguished 37-year career in EMS.

Northern Light Medical Transport is pleased to announce that several of our Bangor-based emergency medical technicians and paramedics were presented with Maine EMS Phoenix Awards during EMS Week. 👏 Pictured are award winners Emmie Peasley, paramedic; Kristin Parker, AEMT; John Bagley, paramedic (two awards!); Carly Taylor, EMT; Jaiden Hanson, AEMT; and Emily Carter, paramedic. Recognized but not pictured are Richard Doughty, Jr., paramedic; Cameron Hasselbaum, paramedic; and Patrick O’Kane, paramedic.

The Phoenix Award recognizes a licensed clinician who used their skills and knowledge and participated in the successful resuscitation of a patient who experienced a non-traumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, resulting in the patient’s survival with no neurological damage.

Behind every award is a patient story and a reminder of how our EMS team makes a lifesaving difference in the lives of the people who live and work around us. Congratulations on this special recognition and thank you for all you do! 🎉

🚑A CPR robot? A camara-guided scope? There's some really interesting stuff in the back of an ambulance, and some of it could help save your life!

For National EMS Week, paramedic Rich Wilson, Northern Light Mayo Hospital EMS, provided a behind-the-scenes look at the tools and technology EMS crews turn to when every second counts.

Meet one of the unsung members of the EMS team: our CPR robot!

The CPR robot provides consistent, high-quality chest compressions during cardiac emergencies. The robot doesn’t replace the EMS team, it supports them: instead of providing hands-on CPR, the team can focus on other critical lifesaving care, especially during long transports and high intensity emergencies.

Hands or machine, the goal is the same: keeping lifesaving care going.

Flying cars, what? No, it's a fly car - a non-transporting Emergency Medical Service (EMS) vehicle.

So, what is a fly car and what is it used for? Take a look at this fun video our EMS rockstars made teaching us what vehicles would respond to different calls.

Thanks to John Bagley, Emily Carter, and Sydnee Cohen for taking a moment in between calls to help us create this informative video and have a few much-needed laughs.

It's not all just sirens and lights, sometimes it's finding those moments of calmness to restock the ambulance. Thanks to Crystal Howison and Cameron Hasselbaum for allowing us to share in this calming moment in between calls.
