Several areas in Louisiana are currently experiencing dense fog on the roadways. Please exercise caution while traveling.

Here are a few quick safety tips to help ensure a safe commute in foggy conditions:

- Turn on your headlights to increase your visibility to other drivers. Use low-beam headlights if visibility drops below 500 feet.
- Reduce your speed and maintain extra following distance from other vehicles.
- Avoid distractions such as cell phone use, eating, or drinking, which can reduce your focus and reaction time.
- Always wear your seatbelt, regardless of your seating position.

If you encounter an emergency on the roads, dial *LSP (*577) to reach the nearest Louisiana State Police Troop or 911 for local authorities.

What Does It Mean to Be a Roads Scholar?

Becoming a Roads Scholar takes commitment. Participants complete 6 required courses and 4 electives covering topics that help local transportation professionals build practical knowledge and skills for the job.

But Roads Scholar is about more than completing courses. Louisiana LTAP instructors bring their knowledge and experience to the classroom to address the real challenges facing Louisiana’s local public agencies. From roadway maintenance and drainage to traffic control, safety and equipment, the training focuses on practical solutions that can be taken from the classroom and applied to local roads and communities.

From July 2025–June 2026:
• 11 new graduates
• 54 classes delivered statewide
• 1,857 participants trained
