Great conversation, plenty of laughs and a room full of attorneys united by their love of college athletics made for a memorable morning at our Annual Membership meeting and NIL CLE with Coach Will Wade.

Thank you to David Fleshman for moderating the conversation and helping coordinate this special program, our generous sponsor Southern Regional Medical Center for making it possible and the Young Lawyers Section Council for helping arrange breakfast and kick off the morning.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a great opportunity to connect, learn and talk all things NIL and college athletics!

You may have seen Téa over this past year helping with Belly Up, Cocktails with the Court, greeting you with a smile at any number of our events and strengthening the operations of the bar as we transition our website and member relations hub.

Now, we’re excited to officially congratulate Téa Arvizu on her graduation from Serve Louisiana and welcome her to the BRBA team full time as our Membership and Operations Coordinator!

In her new role, Téa will head up CLE coordination and events for our sections, while continuing to bring the same energy and enthusiasm our members have come to know over the past year. She's here to help you get involved and develop engaging programming while making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.

We’re so proud of all she accomplished during her year of service and excited for what’s ahead. Congratulations, Téa!

Wills for Heroes serves local first responders!

The Baton Rouge Bar Association joined the Louisiana State Bar Association Young Lawyers Section and the Wills for Heroes Foundation on Aug. 15 to provide free estate planning services to members of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office and other first responders. Volunteer attorneys completed more than 50 wills, helping local law enforcement officers and their families prepare for the future.

A new BRBA event is taking you back to class...

Think you know your stuff? Put it to the test at Are You Smarter Than a Law Student?, a legal trivia gameshow hosted by Luke Williamson and inspired by Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?

Multiple teams of three attorneys each will go head-to-head, tackling trivia questions with a classroom full of law students available as their resources. Between rounds, enjoy cocktails, commercial breaks and plenty of competition as teams battle for bragging rights.

Think your team has what it takes to survive the classroom?

Volunteers are still needed! We’ve got plenty of spots left for the opportunity to assist a local first responder. No estate planning experience required.

With more than 75 local first responders already registered, we need your help to make Wills for Heroes a success.

Wills for Heroes is a national program that provides free wills, powers of attorney and advance healthcare directives to police officers, firefighters and EMS personnel. We're seeking 40-55 volunteer attorneys to serve in a variety of roles, and no estate planning experience is required.

First-time volunteers will complete a brief online CLE to learn the Will Generator software. Ready to help? Visit the Wills for Heroes Sign-Up Page to select a volunteer shift. Need a shorter time commitment? Contact Robin Kay at [email protected], who will be happy to accommodate your schedule.
