As we approach tonight’s Board of Education meeting, Belleville Public Schools remains committed to transparency, factual information, and open communication with our community throughout the 2026-2027 budget process.
The district first presented its preliminary budget during the March 18, 2026 Board of Education meeting, followed by the final budget presentation on April 29, 2026. Notably, this marked the first time in several years that the district’s preliminary and final budgets remained unchanged, reflecting months of careful planning, analysis, and fiscal review.
Like many school districts across New Jersey, Belleville Public Schools has faced significant fiscal challenges, including rising operational costs, health insurance increases, and funding constraints. Throughout this process, the district worked diligently to identify efficiencies while continuing to prioritize students, classrooms, safety, and educational opportunities districtwide.
The district’s total staffing reductions currently stand at 29 positions. At the same time, district administration continues to actively pursue every possible opportunity to restore additional positions and minimize the impact on students and staff whenever fiscally feasible.
We understand that many questions and concerns have been raised throughout this process. We encourage all community members to review the full budget presentation by clicking the link below, remain informed, and continue moving forward together.
Our commitment remains centered on providing students with strong educational opportunities while responsibly navigating the financial realities facing public education today. Erick Alfonso
