โ€ข I had the most fun learning about GI bleeds and how it can become such a serious condition if left untreated! It was interesting to connect what we learned in class to real patient care and to understand why early recognition is so important.
โ€ข a. My preceptor taught me that paying attention to the little changes in a patient's condition can make a big difference in the plan of care. Good communication and critical thinking are just as important as the physical skills we perform.
โ€ข I look forward to learning more about different GI disorders and continuing to build confidence with my assessments, medications, and clinical decision-making.
โ€ข My UMary faculty helped me understand why it is important to know the โ€˜whyโ€™ behind a disease process to help provide better, safer, and more holistic care for our patients. They encourage us to think beyond memorization and really understand what is happening within our patients.

๐Ÿ”ถ๐Ÿ”ทMeet a Mary Nurse๐Ÿ”ท๐Ÿ”ถ
Taryn Neameyer was born and raised in Bismarck, North Dakota, and currently lives in Billings, Montana. She attended Carroll College in Helena, Montana, where she played collegiate soccer and graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2020. She began her nursing career in the emergency department (ED) at Billings Clinic, where she earned her Certified Emergency Nurse certification. She also holds certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Trauma Nursing Core Course, Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course, and Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses. She later worked as a travel nurse in the ED at St. Alexius Health in Bismarck, ND, and now works in the ED at Intermountain Health St. Vincent Regional Hospital. There, she participates in practice counsel, a shared governance committee focused on improving patient care and applying evidence-based standards, and precepts new nurses on her unit. As an ED nurse, Taryn cares for a diverse range of patients with conditions such as stroke, sepsis, trauma, and myocardial infarction. She is pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of Mary, expecting to graduate in May 2028. During her free time, Taryn enjoys exploring Montanaโ€™s beautiful landscape with her friends and family through hiking, skiing, hunting, and rafting.

โ€ข I had the most fun learning about how to perform dressing changes on necrotic wounds and understanding the importance of sterile technique to prevent infection this week. I liked learning about the different dressings based on the condition of the wounds.
โ€ข My preceptor taught me how to accurately assess wounds and identify signs of infection versus healing. They taught me the importance of paying attention to wound drainage, tissue appearance, and how to document the findings from wounds.
โ€ข I look forward to learning more about advanced wound care and treatments for complex wounds. I also want to gain more experience with performing wound dressing changes independently.
โ€ข My UMary faculty helped me understand how to think like a nurse by connecting what I have learned in class to real patient care experiences. They encouraged me to ask questions and use clinical judgement to provide effective care.
