Press Release for Incident at E8892 Winneshiek Drive Wisconsin Dells, WI

On Feburary 3, 2020, at approximately 9:35 pm, Sauk County Sheriff's office dispatch center recieved a call about the possibility of 5 babies, 3 adults being unresponsive inside an apartment with one person feeling dizzy.
Residents of the apartment complex were evacuated for safety reasons.
After completing the investigation, the residents were allowed to return to their apartments. No gas leak or anything of harm was discovered. No injuries or fatalities occurred. One person was transported to local hospital for an undisclosed medical reason. The Ho-chunk Nation would like to thank all those who assisted with this call.

December 1890 at Wounded Knee on the Lakota Pine Ridge Indian Reservation the largest massacre of mostly the elderly, women and children occured. 20 medals were subsequently awarded to the soldiers who took part. Today the the Ho-chunk Nation voted to support "Remove the Stain Act" (H.R.3467 and S.3164). An act that would rescind the Medals of Honor awarded to soldiers who were awarded the medals for participating in the massacre at Wounded Knee.

She gave a gift of an enlarged photograph that was taken during the Ho-Chunk Historical Monument dedication on the UW campus. Christmas Bonus Update.

The HCN Legislature, in it's discretion, just authorized the following appropriation as a Christmas grant for enrolled Ho-Chunks as follows: $300 for each adult and elder and $25 for children 0-17. This is to be paid out by December 20th.

They also approved an employee bonus based on years of service. 0-5 yrs $50, 5-10 yrs $150, 10-15 yrs $250, 15-20 yrs $350, 20-25 yrs $450, etc.

2020 Census Tribal Consultations with Federally Recognized Tribes

The Ho-Chunk Nation is gearing up for the 2020 US Census. Many Tribal Members may think this is a bad move by letting the Federal Government see our information. However, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has taken great care to have all tribal members first identify as American Indian, and then to put their tribe in the appropriate box. This article cites the consultation, which took place in 2017 if anyone was paying attention. So HCN will be able to get all tribal members on trust lands. The result in the past is lost opportunity over a ten year period. The Nation stands to lose $1000 per year for 10 years if just one tribal member is NOT counted. Director of Planning and Development, Michael Rave, believes the Nation will be fully prepared this time.

After this time and date, you will need to submit a paper AVF. Please contact the Enrollment office at [email protected] or by calling the Office for a reprint. REMEMBER: IF you submitted your 2019 AVF using the Electronic submission you are not going to receive a paper AVF in 2020. Information and instructions for filing your annual AVF will be mailed on or before June 1, 2020. Notice will appear on this website when the 2020 Electronic AVF is ready for submission.
