“I don’t have to draw a line in the sand. I already have one. It’s thin. It’s blue. It’s mine and if you cross it, I will protect it.”

**30 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE**

Senior Firefighter Paul Palleson celebrates 30 years at BGFD today! Paul is a glowing example of what a dedicated volunteer firefighter should be through his pride, work ethic and relentless drive to make BGFD top notch. Nicknamed “Triple P” Paul served as President for over 20 years before stepping down. He’s a master trainer, driving instructor and a wealth of knowledge for our new members. He’s also held many trainings for outside agencies as well.

The “Palleson Engine Company” has been a source of strength and pride for Paul as his three sons serve on the FD with him and hold various position within the ranks. His sons are so proud and forever grateful for their father for not only teaching them the ways of firefighting but also showing them what a father and a man is supposed to do and be for the ones he loves.

Calling these last few months ‘busy’ is an understatement! The volunteer firefighters of Porter County have had an unprecedented amount of structure & brush fires lately which have primarily been caused accidental or natural causes.

None the less, grandparents, husbands, wives, sons and daughters have spent countless hours away from home helping others in need and we do this because we care for our fellow human being. Giving back to communities that have given so much to us! We want to thank ALL of you for the support, prayers, food & water received while we are at emergency scenes for extended periods of time. Without you, we are but individuals. With you, we are ONE!

Special thanks to our law enforcement, EMS & dispatchers as well. Solid partnerships with one goal, safety for all!

Rest assured BGFD misses you! A Sunday in April is usually reserved for PANCAKES & SAUSAGE, a full fire house and the opportunity for us to see all our amazing community members and supporters!

Though we haven’t been able to do this for two years now 😢, we have had 35 great years prior! Think back, how many have you attended?! Let us know and also tell us which you like better, the pancakes or the sausage!!

Had no idea. The three black lines on school buses serve a purpose. The bottom line is the floor of the bus. The middle line is the seat line. The top black line is the top of the seats. These lines of the bus are reinforced, but they also let firefighters know where to cut in case of an accident. I love knowing stuff like this. Old dog, new tricks.

Vehicle extication techniques utilized in today's training revolved around challenging situations. Those in which the collision placed the vehicle resting on its roof with limited access to multiple sides. Examples of these collisions would be deep road ditches, trees, buildings, semis and other heavy obstruction. Impingment of the vehicles structure onto the patient in severe collisions place a stragic approach to extrication. These situations make firefighters take creative action to making access tunnels through the vehicle structure. All while maintaining the patient integrity.

Today's training included a collection of techniques from multiple USA renowned instructors. Each of the techniques have been given a unique title by the originaI instructors whom designed these field tested and proven approaches to vehicle extrication.

We thank our community and the surrounding area for the continual support as we grow to reach new levels to better serve you. Special thanks to Sandberg's Towing & Recovery for donating several vehicles for us to train with!
