Everything Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov represents is exactly what free people should fight against. His threats against diplomats in Kiev will only steel the resolve of the international community to support Ukraine in its valiant fight against Russia.

US Representative Himes said the threats would ultimately backfire, adding that he would push for increased US military aid to Ukraine upon returning from Kyiv to Washington.

Before the Russians blew up the structure behind me, it was a mall and residence for Ukrainians living in Kiev. No government or military value whatsoever—and the Russians destroyed it anyway. The United States must stand firmly behind our ally to make clear to the Russians that their blatant aggression will not be tolerated.

It was an honor to visit President Zelenskyy alongside Senator Richard Blumenthal today to reaffirm the Congress’ commitment to supporting our Ukrainian allies in their fight against Russia. In four years of brutal, unprovoked war, tens of thousands of Ukrainians have died defending their country from Putin’s landgrab. The United States and its European Allies must stand strong in our support for Ukraine to ensure it prevails in its heroic struggle against the Russians.

Glad to be a part of Westport’s Memorial Day ceremony on Monday and especially grateful to have heard from Herb Podell, a WWII Veteran and the event's Grand Marshall. A Navy Veteran who served in the Pacific Theater, Herb’s wisdom – collected over his remarkable 101 years of life – was inspiring. Thank you, Herb, for your service and to everyone who attended to remember the American men and women in uniform who gave their lives in the line of duty.

On Memorial Day, we remember and honor the brave men and women in uniform who laid down their lives in the line of duty. Their sacrifices afford us the privileges and freedoms we enjoy on a daily basis and, for that, we are eternally grateful. May their heroism never be forgotten.

It’s hard to arrive at any conclusion other than that due to the political toxicity of this war, President Trump has just surrendered to Iran.

05/21/2026

As we approach the 25th anniversary of 9/11, I asked experts witnesses to provide concrete steps the U.S. can take to degrade the appeal of radical, violent ideologies. Their suggestions sound a lot like the programs Trump has cut.

13 Americans are dead, gas prices are up $1.50 nationally, food prices are skyrocketing, and my Republican colleagues refuse to rein in this President from continuing his reckless war in Iran out of fear for their political futures. No career is worth shirking the pledge we took to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States.

I’m deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my friend Congressman Barney Frank. When I was first elected to Congress, I had the privilege of serving on the Financial Services Committee under the leadership of then-Chairman Frank. Our most immediate task was to salvage the nation’s economy in the midst of the Great Recession. Chairman Frank – undaunted by the monumental challenges before him – set to work negotiating, and ultimately signing into law, one of the most consequential pieces of banking legislation in our nation’s history, credited with staving off a total economic collapse. Barney accomplished this with unmatched wit, a mastery of the politics at hand, and searing analysis of his critics with his famous sharp tongue.

Barney’s tenacity and clear-eyed focus on protecting the American people from the worst possible outcomes of the Great Recession set the baseline for how I, and many of my colleagues elected in 2008, would approach our work in this institution. Moreover, his courage to out himself as one of the first openly gay Members of Congress underscored his deep personal commitment to confronting, and correcting, prejudice. He was a tireless housing advocate, working to create affordable opportunities for people to both rent and own a decent place to live. He will not soon be forgotten, and I know I speak for many when I say we are grateful to have known him, learned from him, and counted him as our friend.

The shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego is absolutely horrific. My heart goes out to the families of the three individuals whose lives were claimed in this deliberate, hateful attack and to the broader Muslim community mourning this tragedy. All Americans deserve to worship in peace, and we must stand together against all forms of prejudice, hate, and violence.
