VIDA is an organization of active and involved citizens from diverse backgrounds dedicated to building a better community for today and for the future.

*A Short History of VIDA*
The origins of VIDA go back to the 1960s, and the struggle for “community control” of the schools, waged by parents and educators of the Central Brooklyn Community.

In 1972, Central Brooklyn residents drafted Al Vann, then head of the African American Teachers Association, to run for State Assembly. In that year’s general election, Vann pulled an unprecedented 2,000+ votes under the Vanguard Independent Party in the community which had registered overwhelmingly Democratic. The same organization which originated in the struggles of the 1960s and led the charge

Election Day is finally here. The polls are open from 6am to 9pm. As many of you know, I am a lifelong resident of Bedford Stuyvesant. I was raised in the Tompkins Houses, and now reside on Macon Street with my wife and our two sons. I want to continue my long-standing service and commitment to our community as the next Council Member for the 36th District, which covers the neighborhoods of Bedford Stuyvesant and North Crown Heights. I humbly ask for your vote today as your #1 ranked choice.

Thrilled to count Hakeem Jeffries on #TeamCornegy. He's been a fearless progressive advocate for New York on key issues including criminal justice reform, healthcare, economic justice, and affordable housing. Together we'll continue to build a better Brooklyn for all.

"A native New Yorker, Robert Cornegy has been a fierce advocate for our communities his whole life. In the City Council, he passed legislation to outlaw police chokeholds, supported our small businesses, and protected our seniors. He’ll lead Brooklyn’s recovery by keeping us safe while creating economic opportunity and affordable housing for all. Join me in ranking Robert Cornegy #1 for Borough President on June 22." - Congressman Hakeem Jeffries

ENDORSEMENT ALERT 📢 📢
I am excited to announce that Tompkins own, and my childhood friend actor/comedian Tracy Morgan has endorsed me for City Council.
"I'm endorsing my childhood friend Henry Butler aka Hank to be the next City Council Member for the 36th Council District. As teenagers growing up in the Tompkins Houses we would always talk about what we could do to improve conditions for our community. Hank has turned those words into action. He has a long track record of delivering for the residents of Bedford Stuyvesant and North Crown Heights. I ask that you vote for my friend Henry Butler, who not only loves his community, but has worked tirelessly to improve his community"
Tracy Morgan.
