Who can sign up

Anyone. Parents and family members. School staff. Neighbors, businesses, and community organizations near a school.

Each person who wants alerts must sign up individually. NYC Emergency Management cannot enroll anyone on their behalf.

How to sign up

1. Create a Notify NYC account or log in to an existing one at NYC.gov/NotifyNYC.

2. Add a school address as one of your preferred locations. Find a school's address at https://schoolsearch.schools.nyc/

3. Select School Notifications and save your settings.

You will receive alerts for every public school in the same ZIP code as the address you select, which means you may hear about a nearby school and not only the one whose address you entered. One school address per ZIP code is all you need. An account holds up to five preferred locations.

Some people leave behind memories. Others leave a legacy so deeply woven into a community that their name becomes part of its story. ❤️

Please join us as we come together to honor and remember the beautiful life and lasting legacy of Terri Cadet-Donald with the co-naming of a street in her memory.

Terri was truly a woman of community. She gave her time, her heart, and her energy to so many organizations and causes that made our neighborhoods stronger. Her commitment could be felt through her work with the Mill Basin Civic Association, District 22, Brooklyn Community Board 18, the 63rd Precinct Community Council, the Kings Plaza–Canarsie Kiwanis Club of Brooklyn, Mary Queen of Heaven Church, and, of course, our organizations Millennium Development and the Bergen Beach Youth Organization.

To those of us at Millennium Development and Bergen Beach Youth Organization, Terri was more than someone we worked alongside. She was part of our family. We witnessed firsthand how deeply she cared about people and how much of herself she gave to our children, families, seniors, and the community she was so proud to serve.

On Friday, October 16th at 5:30 PM, at East 53rd Street & Avenue L, we will have the privilege of gathering together with Terri’s family, along with her friends, neighbors, colleagues, community organizations, and community leaders, for this very special tribute.

Having Terri’s family there with us will make this moment even more meaningful. Together, we will surround them with the love of a community that remembers Terri, misses her, and remains grateful for everything she gave to so many.

And there is something incredibly special about knowing that long after this ceremony is over, people will pass this street and see Terri Cadet-Donald’s name. Those who knew her will remember her smile, her kindness, her friendship, and her dedication. Those who did not may stop and ask, “Who was Terri Cadet-Donald?”
And we will have the privilege of continuing to tell her story.
She was here. She cared. She served. She loved her family and her community. And she made a difference.

We hope everyone whose life was touched by Terri will join her family and all of us for this beautiful and historic moment. Let us fill that street with the people she loved and the community she spent so much of her life serving. 🌸❤️

Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever part of the community she gave so much of herself to.

A message from New York City Department of Sanitation
Get Rid of Your Harmful Household Products, Safely!

Fall SAFE Disposal Events Start Soon; First Event is Sunday, September 20 in Manhattan

While the New York City Department of Sanitation provides robust, inclusive curbside recycling collection services, not everything can be safely disposed of in the trash or recycling bin. Residents must dispose of unwanted items properly to protect the safety and well-being of the Sanitation Workers who handle them, as well as the health of the city overall.

To make it easy to dispose of potentially harmful household items such as pesticides, strong cleaners, mercury-containing devices, paints, automotive fluids, medications, and e-waste, residents may attend a SAFE (Solvents, Automotive, Flammables, and Electronics) Disposal event, held in each borough this fall.

All events are rain or shine, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and only items from NYC residents will be accepted. The events are:

Sunday, September 20, 2026 - Manhattan
Union Square Park, North Plaza

Saturday, September 26, 2026 - Queens
Cunningham Park

Sunday, October 11, 2026 - Brooklyn
Floyd Bennett Field (Senate District 19)

Saturday, October 17, 2026 - Staten Island
Midland Beach Parking Lot 8

Saturday, October 24, 2026 - Bronx
Orchard Beach

Materials collected are either recycled, blended for fuel, or sent to licensed hazardous waste treatment facilities for safe disposal.

Additionally, the Department hosts five year-round Special Waste Drop-Off sites that accept aerosols, batteries, E-waste, E-cigarettes & v**e pens, fluorescent light bulbs & CFLs, motor oil and transmission fluid, motor oil filters, paint, passenger car tires, and mercury-containing devices.

These sites are open every Tuesday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and are:

Bronx, Hunts Point
Farragut Street and the East River, next to the Fulton Fish Market

Brooklyn, Greenpoint
459 North Henry Street (drop-off site near 530 Kingsland Avenue)

Manhattan, Lower East Side/Two Bridges
74 Pike Slip between Cherry Street and South Street

Queens, College Point
30th Avenue, between 120th and 122nd Streets

Staten Island, Fresh Kills
Off Muldoon Avenue exit of the southbound West Shore Expressway

For small amounts of paint, let dry, or use kitty litter, newspaper, or other absorbent material to soak up paint and place in trash.
