🚨National Police week🚨

This week we pause to honor the brave men and women in law enforcement who serve with integrity. We remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and express our deepest gratitude to the officers who continue to serve and protect our communities every day.🚔

Some folks like to talk about public safety like it just falls out of the sky. It doesn't. It comes from brave officers, strong families, and a willingness to serve. Thank you for your dedication. 🚓

PLEASE BE AWARE OF SCAMS!

Protect yourself from scams by never paying with gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency, and being skeptical of urgent, unexpected requests for personal information. Scammers often impersonate banks, government officials, or trusted companies to steal passwords and money. Independently verify requests by contacting companies directly, not through provided links.

Key Warning Signs and Tactics
Urgency & Threats: Scammers pressure you to act immediately, often threatening legal action, account suspension, or immediate payment.
Unsolicited Contact: Be wary of unexpected calls, texts, or emails, even if they look legitimate.
Too Good to Be True: Offers promising large sums of money, high returns on investment, or free prizes are almost always fake.
Advanced AI: Scammers use artificial intelligence to clone voices or fake images of loved ones in trouble.

How to Protect Yourself
Never Pay Immediately: Scammers often insist on payment via gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.
Don't Click Links: Do not click links or open attachments in unexpected emails or text messages.
Verify Independently: If a company, such as your bank, contacts you, do not use the contact information they provide. Instead, look up the official phone number or website to verify.
Secure Accounts: Use strong, unique passwords and enable multi-factor authentication.
Check for Errors: Look for typos, poor grammar, or slightly altered web addresses in communication.

Community Press Release:
Today, April 15 at approximately 10:45am, Carrington Police Department attempted to speak with Carrington resident Cristoffer Bertilson regarding a property crime. While Chief Bittmann was speaking with Mr. Bertilson, Mr. Bertilson charged at him. Chief Bittmann informed him that he was under arrest, but Mr. Bertilson did not comply, and a Taser was deployed.
Mr. Bertilson was able to get back into his house and shut the door. After multiple attempts to gain entry, Mr. Bertilson then made threatening remarks against Chief Bittmann’s life. Chief Bittmann backed away and requested assistance from the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office. Mutual aid was also requested from the Stutsman County Special Response Team (SRT) and the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Mr. Bertilson was ultimately arrested without incident, and no one was injured.

The Carrington Police Department would like to thank the Foster County Sheriff’s Office, Carrington Ambulance, James River SWAT, Jamestown Police Department, Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office, North Dakota Highway Patrol, Jamestown Police Department Negotiations Team, and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) for their assistance.
