Jenna Cooper’s first day as AZCEND’s CEO is in the books!

Jenna visited all five AZCEND sites to meet staff and see the many ways help and hope reach neighbors across the East Valley.

From healthy food and safe shelter to early childhood literacy, senior services, heat relief and personalized support, every AZCEND location plays an important role in our mission to nourish minds and bodies so that neighbors in need experience a brighter future.

Jenna’s schedule may be full, but her purpose is simple: listen, learn and get to know the people at the heart of AZCEND.

Monsoon season can bring strong winds, heavy rain and unexpected power outages across the Valley. A little preparation can help keep you, your loved ones and your neighbors safe if the lights go out.

Here are a few simple ways to prepare:

1. Have water and flashlights ready. Keep extra drinking water, flashlights and fresh batteries in an easy-to-find location. Avoid using candles during power outages.

2. Charge devices before storms arrive. Keep phones, portable chargers and medical devices fully charged whenever severe weather is in the forecast.

3. Keep your refrigerator and freezer closed. An unopened refrigerator will keep food cold for about four hours, while a full freezer can stay cold for up to 48 hours.

4. Know where to go if you need to cool down. If your home becomes too hot, identify a nearby cooling center, library or other air-conditioned public space before an emergency happens.

5. Check on neighbors. A quick phone call or knock on the door can make a big difference for older adults, young children and neighbors with health conditions during extreme heat or extended outages.

Jenna begins her new role today, Monday, Aug. 3, as AZCEND celebrates 60 years of bringing help and hope to neighbors in need.

An experienced nonprofit and public sector leader, Jenna has a strong record of building partnerships, growing programs and bringing people together to meet community needs. She is excited to listen, learn and work alongside AZCEND’s staff, volunteers, donors and community partners.

We look forward to beginning this new chapter together.
