VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: ANGELA HAMBY
It is so important to recognize the incredible people who give their time, talent, and heart to DSAGC. Today, we’re shining a light on someone who has been quietly serving our community for nearly 20 years — the amazing Angela Hamby.
Angela is one of those behind-the-scenes people who makes so much of what we do possible.
By day, Angela is a nurse with Atrium Health. But outside of her regular work, she gives countless hours to our Down syndrome community. She volunteers as a nurse at Camp Harrison in Boomer, is always at Camp Horizon (is also on the planning committee for Horizon) and regularly supports our Adult Weekend Retreats, and she plays a huge role behind the scenes in keeping our camp programs safe and successful.
Angela oversees so much of the medical side of camp registration and preparation. She reviews medical information, follows up when documents are missing or need to be updated, and works with families to make sure our team understands the best ways to support each camper while they are with us.
And she doesn’t just show up when camp begins. She works throughout the year to help ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our campers across all three of our camp programs.
Angela is also passionate about nursing and education. She helps educate other nurses and serves on the Metrolina Council of Nurses Committee. She brings that professional knowledge and expertise to everything she does for DSAGC.
But what makes Angela truly special is her heart.
She loves our families and our campers deeply. She has a huge heart for our community and treats our kiddos with the same care and love she gives her own family. And family is incredibly important to Angela — she is a mom, grandma, wife, sister, and so much more.
Angela is a quiet force.
She doesn’t always stand in the spotlight, but for nearly two decades, she has been there — behind the scenes, in the cabins, on the phone with families, reviewing paperwork, caring for campers, supporting staff, and helping us make sure our programs are safe and successful.
Angela, thank you for nearly 20 years of giving your time, expertise, compassion, and heart to our community. Thank you for sticking with our kiddos throughout their lives and for being someone our families can count on.
Please give Angela a big shout-out in the comments or reach out to her personally so she can see just how much our community appreciates her!
We are so grateful for you, Angela Hamby.
