The mission of Supportive Housing Communities (SHC) is to provide affordable housing to alleviate homelessness and human suffering. SHC provides permanent supportive housing for men, women and families overcoming homelessness, especially veterans and those with mental illness, substance abuse and medical or other disabling conditions. As Charlotte's first permanent supportive housing program, SHC is widely recognized in the region as an experienced leader in developing and operating permanent supportive housing. This program has been proven to be successful for ending homelessness among our most challenging population.

Good food, good company, and a beautiful celebration of community. 💙

Our neighbors recently came together at McCreesh Place to host a resident-led fish fry to celebrate SHC staff and honor the memory of Robert “Malik” Sibley, a beloved member of Supportive Housing Communities. After his passing, residents chose to continue the gathering in his honor, creating a special space for neighbors and staff to remember him and celebrate the community Malik helped build.

Our neighbors planned and cooked the entire meal, serving flounder, ribs, chicken fingers, mac and cheese, slaw, dessert, and more! 🍽️

We are so proud of the hard work our residents put into this delicious meal, and we continue to be inspired by the way our neighbors come together to support one another, celebrate community, and honor those who have touched our lives.

Remembering Malik ❤️

Today we honor Robert “Malik” Sibley, a beloved member of Supportive Housing Communities.

Those who had the privilege of knowing Malik know that he was truly remarkable. He was genuine, thoughtful, attentive, and deeply caring. He had a way of making you feel seen, as he took the time to ask how you were doing and greeted you with one of his unforgettable hugs. Then, of course, if you knew Malik, you could almost always count on him showing up in a fitted cap that perfectly matched his outfit.

As a Program Services Manager at McCreesh Place, he believed in meeting people where they were, acknowledging their progress, and walking with them as they worked toward stability and their own goals. For Malik, service was a calling. He spoke about how his own journey led him to a life centered on helping others and giving back.

He never forgot where he came from, and he carried that perspective with him in the way he cared for others. In sharing his story, Malik reflected on how meaningful it was to help someone move from a place of hopelessness to a place of hope. He believed in being there for people without expecting anything in return.

Malik was a good and faithful servant. His presence brought warmth, joy, compassion, and humanity into the lives of so many. His story, his service, his laughter, his kindness, and, of course, his hugs will never be forgotten.

We are grateful for the time we had with Malik, for all he poured into our community, and for the countless lives he touched along the way.

We honor you, Malik. Your work here mattered. Your life mattered. And you will be deeply missed. ❤️

From serving on our Community and Engagement Committee for two years to supporting SHC through his family foundation, Kevin has continued to give his time, resources, and heart to our community.

Congratulations to our 2026 Corporate Neighbor of the Year, Barings! 🎉

We are incredibly grateful for and their continued support of SHC and our neighbors. Their generosity helps fund our Keeping Families Together program, helping 50 families remain together in stable housing.

For families who have faced separation due to a lack of housing, having a safe and stable place to call home can be life-changing. Stable housing allows families to close DSS cases, reunite under one roof, and focus on what matters most: building stronger families and brighter futures together.

Beyond their financial support, the team at Barings has also contributed countless volunteer hours at McCreesh Place and other corporate sites, helping create welcoming, supportive communities for all of our neighbors.

We are incredibly grateful for St. Peter Catholic Church and their continued commitment to supporting SHC and our neighbors. As one of the founding members of SHC, their generosity and partnership are a powerful reminder of what is possible when a community comes together to create lasting change.

Their partnership with SHC has a meaningful history. McCreesh Place, Charlotte’s first permanent supportive housing community, was named in honor of Father Eugene McCreesh, a priest and community leader at St. Peter Catholic Church.

We are so thankful for the continued support, partnership, and impact has made in the lives of our neighbors.

This is something that we are incredibly proud of at SHC because we know that housing support and mental well-being go hand in hand.

Every day, our staff members strive to provide our neighbors with the best possible mental and emotional health services. Mental health challenges affect people from all walks of life. For individuals experiencing homelessness, the uncertainty of where they will sleep or how they will access care can make those challenges even harder to navigate.

That is why, at SHC, we believe that when our neighbors have a safe place to live again, they have a stronger foundation to heal, grow, and build a brighter future. 💙

Meet one of our neighbors at McCreesh Place – and take a look at his vision board. 🎨

A few months ago, our neighbor sat down with Ms. Carol and the Life Skills team and started dreaming up a plan. What mattered most to him? Cooking for his "McCreesh Place family."

Fast forward to today: he's hosted cookouts, turkey dinners, and brought neighbors together around the table more times than we can count. ❤️

This is exactly why we love our Life Skills Program - it's not about checking boxes. It's about helping people figure out what excites them, and then giving them the tools to make it real.

We’re so proud of him and everything he's cooked up (literally)! 🙌
