Veterans Bridge Home

Veterans Bridge Home Your bridge from service to stability. Stronger together. Stronger at home. In some cases, they also recover from wounds and also pursue further education.

From transition to connection, employment and housing to mental health, wellness and VA benefits — we are here to support service members, veterans, and their families. Veterans Bridge Home connects Veterans and their families, in any state of transition, to the community. Through our network of partners, we help Veterans navigate employment, create social connections, and settle their families. We look at the whole Veteran and connect them to the resources needed to be successful and thriving leaders in our community. After the regimen and sacrifice of military duty, transition to civilian life can be challenging as Veterans reunite with their families, pursue a new profession, locate services which were all on base, and build a social network. Veterans Bridge Home serves as an entry point for Veterans who don't know where to turn to access support and services. Because Veterans return home to a civilian community and not to federal agencies or bureaucracies, each community must reach out and actively assist in the reintegration process alongside federal agencies such as the Veterans Administration. The Carolinas have the opportunity and privilege to help bring our nation's warriors and their families home with the same energy and commitment that our Veterans have displayed in serving our nation. In so doing, ours will serve as a leader to inform other communities that wish to create more welcoming and livable communities for returning Veterans and their families. Veterans Bridge Home (VBH) is a 501(c)(3) dedicated to supporting the transition of military members exiting the service with a holistic approach. Please consider donating monthly or annually by visiting veteransbridgehome.org. ANY amount makes an impact on a Veterans life!

A little good news to round out your week...

“When my wife and I found out we were getting displaced from our current home, we were given a month to figure out where our family with 2 kids were going to live. We went to VBH and sat down with Victoria. She understood our pain and situation and went over the multitude of resources and professional contacts and associates to ensure my family was taken care of when we struggled to find leads due to an old eviction. Victoria and her team sent out referrals and emails which lead to two solid leads, one of which we almost automatically qualified for. Now we have a backup plan for our backup plan and it's made us feel a lot better as a family to know people were going to help. It's been a big relief that we had somewhere to start when we didn’t know where this situation was going. Thank you for all the support and encouragement we needed to make our family whole again."

To celebrate the Greenville, NC Unlock the Veteran & MilSpouse Advantage for Your Business Roadshow today we’re breaking out a few highlights from the NC DMVA Charlotte stop back in July.

It’s been two months since the Charlotte roadshow and our number 1 takeaway remains the same: veterans and military spouses are incredible employees, and they’ll stick around when they know that their employer truly values what they bring to the team.

We are big advocates for taking Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training. In fact, we often partner with the Governor's Institute to host them. Today we're going to be taking a closer look at military families, caregivers, and how MHFA training has been able to help them.

Family caregivers of veterans tend to carry an elevated psychological burden. These are family members who live their lives putting their needs second, and often with limited support systems.

An Australian study on Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training for veterans' family members showed that taking MHFA training resulted in increase confidence, leaving the 57 family members who participated feeling more confident in making contact with, talking to, and helping someone in crisis.

But it's important to note that these trainings are designed to build helping capacity, and are not intended to be substitutes for direct caregiver support services. Participants entered the training with above-average rates of lifetime mental health difficulty themselves (over half reported a lifetime diagnosis), and showed extremely high levels of burnout, even after the MHFA training.

If you are a veteran family member or caregiver, let this be your sign to take the training when/if you are able, but also to find a support system that works for you.

What we hope service members, veterans, and their families hear: you did good in the military, and you'll do good after the military too.

And if you need a little support along the way? Well that's what we're here for.

People need people. You've probably heard that a million times.

But did you know that veterans experiencing chronic loneliness are three times more likely to have suicidal thoughts than veterans with a strong social support system?

This is why we harp on the importance of community connection. Going to veteran coffees, happy hours, lunches, weekly workouts...that's how you find your people and how you build community.
