Sugar Creek Charter School Welcome to Sugar Creek Charter School. Our school houses K-12th grade. Our school has begun a renewed focus on technology as an instructional tool.

Our faculty and our staff provide students and parents with an inviting atmosphere where our goal is to assist students to become the best and the brightest in Charlotte. We offer our students a balanced academic program in our core curriculum with a strong emphasis on reading and math. Our school also offers students many “special” programs for enrichment and fulfillment such as Character Educati

on, Computers, PE, Art and Music. Sugar Creek Charter students have many services available to them throughout the school day. These include: Exceptional Children (EC) services, full-time nursing care, and a part-time mental health professional. Students and teachers at our school have been working very hard improving reading and math scores. Besides improving academics, our students and faculty continue to implement our “Code of Civility” focusing on character education. Our faculty and staff feel that educating students for responsible citizenship is part of our responsibility to children. Teachers and students are offered more access to technology and to the Internet. We feel that we offer students, teachers, and parents a safe learning environment. Sugar Creek families, you’re invited to join our 2026–2027 Family Engagement Council, or FEC!

The FEC is a space for parents, caregivers, staff, school leaders and community members to come together, share ideas and help strengthen the connection between home and school.

There are no membership dues, no fundraising requirements and no pressure to do more than your capacity allows. We simply want families to have meaningful opportunities to stay informed, get involved and help shape the Sugar Creek experience for all scholars.

Join us for our first meeting on Thursday, August 27, 2026, featuring our Annual Title I Kickoff and “A Day in the Life of a Sugar Creek Student.”

We will also provide:

🍽️ Dinner for attendees
🧸 Childcare for children ages 1 to 4, if needed
💻 A virtual attendance option
🚌 Transportation assistance, if needed
👨‍👩‍👧 The option for younger children to remain with you during the meeting

We are also looking for one Elementary, one Middle School and one High School parent representative to serve as family leaders on the council.

And yes, we are making it a little fun this year. Elementary, Middle and High School families will compete to see which school level has the highest FEC participation throughout the year!

Join us for our Annual Title 1 Review and Family Engagement Council Kickoff Meeting on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 5:30 p.m. at the Cheryl D. Turner Campus.

This first Family Engagement Council meeting of the 2026–2027 school year is an opportunity for K–12 families to:

• Learn more about Title 1 and what it means for SCCS
• Discover ways to participate and stay connected throughout the school year
• Learn more about the Family Engagement Council
• Learn more about A Day in the Life of a Sugar Creek Student

Families may attend in person or virtually, and dinner will be provided for those joining us on campus.

Sugar Creek Charter School proudly celebrated a historic milestone with the official naming and dedication of the Cheryl D. Turner Campus.

Since joining Sugar Creek in 2001, Ms. Cheryl D. Turner has devoted more than two decades of leadership, vision and service to the growth of our school community. From serving as School Director to leading Sugar Creek Charter School as Superintendent, her influence has helped shape the opportunities, culture and foundation experienced by generations of Wildcats.

Surrounded by staff, Board members, alumni, community members and special guests, we celebrated not only the naming of a campus, but the lasting impact of a leader whose dedication has become part of Sugar Creek’s history.

We are honored to officially call this home the Cheryl D. Turner Campus.

Sugar Creek Charter School officially welcomed our team into the 2026–2027 school year with our annual Welcome Breakfast. Staff, Board members, alumni and special guests gathered for a morning of fellowship, reflection and celebration as we prepared for another year of serving our Wildcats.

The morning also gave us an opportunity to hear from SCCS alumni and recognize members of our team for their years of dedicated service to Sugar Creek. From those beginning their journey with us to those who have invested years into our school community, every person plays an important role in the Sugar Creek story.

We are grateful for the commitment, heart and dedication our faculty and staff bring to our scholars and families each day. Here’s to a strong 2026–2027 school year! 🐾

As we welcome scholars back for a new school year, our school nutrition team is ready to serve up fresh, nutritious meals every day. From breakfast that fuels learning to lunches that meet federal nutrition standards, we are committed to supporting student success both in and out of the classroom.

Our kitchens are prepared, our menus are planned, and our staff is excited to see familiar faces and meet new ones. We take pride in providing meals that are balanced, safe, and appealing to all students.

The first day of the 2026–2027 school year is officially in the books!

From scholars settling into their classrooms and confidently raising their hands to teachers building connections and families joining us for our Kindergarten Breakfast, The Creek was filled with excitement, learning and a strong sense of belonging.

What an incredible Open House at The Creek! 💙💛

Our campuses were filled with excitement as students and families met teachers, explored classrooms, connected with staff and prepared for a successful school year. Families also had the opportunity to visit community vendors and resource tables, learn about local programs, enjoy refreshments, receive school supplies and giveaways, and take advantage of free haircuts for students.

A special thank you to our vendors, community partners, volunteers and staff members who helped create such a welcoming experience for our families. From helpful resources and smiling faces to fresh haircuts and joyful reunions, every moment reflected the strong community that makes Sugar Creek Charter School special.

Community Partner Spotlight!

One of our valued school partners, Dynamic Learning Academy, is hosting a Back-to-School Event to help families prepare for a successful year!

Join them Saturday, Aug. 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for backpacks and school supplies, food and refreshments, games, books, community resources and more. Families can also learn about preschool registration for ages 3 to 5 and before- and after-school programs for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
