When most people think of a library, they think of books. But at the Chesterfield Township Library, our Maker Space is helping community members create, design, learn, and explore in ways that might surprise you.

The Buddy's Makerspace offers access to incredible tools and technology, including a Glowforge laser cutter, 3D printing capabilities, crafting equipment, creative workstations, and hands-on learning opportunities for all ages. Whether you're working on a school project, starting a small business, creating personalized gifts, learning a new skill, or simply exploring your creative side, the Maker Space provides resources that many people don't have access to at home.

It's just one more reason why today's library is so much more than a place to check out books. It's a place to learn, create, innovate, and connect with your community.

What would YOU make if you had access to all those tools?

One of the biggest misconceptions people have about libraries is that they are only about books. In reality, modern libraries have become incredible community spaces where people of all ages can continue learning, exploring new interests, and developing valuable skills throughout their lives.

At the Chesterfield Township Library, patrons can access workshops, maker spaces, career resources, technology programs, creative classes, hobby groups, educational events, and hands-on learning opportunities designed for both kids and adults. Whether someone wants to improve professional skills, learn something creative, explore new technology, or simply try something completely different, the library continues to be one of the most accessible places to grow and stay curious.

So now we want to know… what is one skill YOU would love to learn?

Before self-checkout stations, apps, and digital accounts, library books used to come with little checkout cards tucked inside the front cover. Librarians would stamp the due date, write your information down, and somehow those cards became part of the entire library experience for generations of readers.

Seeing these old checkout cards brings back memories for so many people of walking through the library as a kid, carrying giant stacks of books home for summer reading, and hoping you remembered to return everything before the due date arrived.

So now we want to know… what year do YOU think libraries mostly stopped using these old checkout cards regularly? Drop your guess in the comments and let’s see who remembers.

The Chesterfield Township Library may look a little different today, but the love of books, learning, and community is still exactly the same.

This Memorial Day, the Chesterfield Township Library would like to take a moment to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives serving our country. Memorial Day is an important reminder that the freedoms, opportunities, and communities we enjoy today were made possible through the sacrifice and courage of those who served and never returned home.

As families gather throughout the holiday weekend, we also encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and the lives that were given in service to others. Their stories, sacrifices, and dedication deserve to be remembered and passed down to future generations.

From all of us at the Chesterfield Township Library, thank you to all who have served and especially to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
