Support your libraries during Literacy Month!

๐Ÿ“š September is Literacy Month in Rock Springs! ๐Ÿ“š

Everyone can make a difference by:
๐Ÿ“– Reading with children
๐Ÿ“š Supporting our local libraries and literacy organizations
๐Ÿค Volunteering as a tutor or mentor
๐Ÿ’ก Recognizing the lifelong impact of literacy

Be sure to take part in some of the upcoming literacy events in our community:

๐Ÿ“… September 5 | 11 a.m.โ€“2 p.m.
๐Ÿ“– Book Signing with Celeste Black at Bank Court

๐Ÿ“… September 17 | 6 p.m.
๐ŸŽค Sam Demma at Rock Springs Junior High

A special thank you to community members, the Women's Club, members of the Library System, and the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Department for being present to help celebrate this important proclamation.

Let's come together this September to celebrate reading, learning, and the power of literacy! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ“š

WLA shares in the sadness of Dolly's passing. Her support for libraries and literacy are unparalleled, and 15 of Wyoming's 23 counties benefit at some level from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

WLA will always love you, Dolly โค๏ธ

ALA is heartbroken at the passing of country music legend, cultural icon, and champion of literacy Dolly Parton.

Dollyโ€™s award-winning Imagination Library initiative, inspired by her fatherโ€™s inability to read or write, has put hundreds of millions of free books into the hands of children across America and was considered by her to be one of her greatest achievements.

โ€œWeโ€™re giving books to kids who wouldnโ€™t have a chance to get them otherwise,โ€ she told American Libraries in a 2018 interview. โ€œA lot of people think this is just for poor childrenโ€”itโ€™s for all children. Itโ€™s important to get books into the hands of any child that we can.โ€

ALA was proud to confer Dolly with an honorary lifetime membership, the Associationโ€™s highest honor, in 2023 for her lasting impact on librarianship, libraries, and the communities they serve.

Dolly was also part of ALAโ€™s Celebrity READ campaign, in which she holds a copy of 'The Little Engine That Could.'

โ€œIโ€™ve always related to that book because Iโ€™m the little engine that did!โ€ she said.

Thank you, Dolly. โค๏ธ

Library Journal has named the Goshen County Library as the 2026 Best Small Library in America! WLA has benefited under Cristine Braddy's presidency and we love that the entire nation can now learn more about GCL. This recognition shows others what we've known for years: Wyoming libraries are the best ๐Ÿ“š โค๏ธ

Seven years ago, the Goshen County Library board and Director Cristine Braddy took advantage of the COVID-enforced shutdown to stop and reimagine what this small Wyoming library could be for its community. ๐ŸŽ‰ Wow, Wyoming library supporters...thank you!

Because of the incredible generosity of donors across the state, $144,321 was raised during WyoGives to support participating library Friends groups and Foundations! And, that's even before the Hughes Charitable Foundation distribution!

These gifts will help fund library programs, expand collections, strengthen outreach, enhance technology, support lifelong learning, and create new opportunities for communities across Wyoming. Every donation is an investment in libraries and the people they serve.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who gave, shared a post, encouraged a friend, or championed their local library. Your support demonstrates the power of communities coming together to ensure Wyoming libraries continue to inspire, educate, and connect people for generations to come.

We also want to thank the dedicated Friends groups and Library Foundations whose passion and commitment make these efforts possible, as well as the Wyoming Nonprofit Network and the Hughes Charitable Foundation for making WyoGives such a meaningful day of giving.

๐Ÿ’™ Together, you all raised $144,321 for Wyoming libraries. That's something worth celebrating!
