MPower Change

On the morning of Friday, February 12, 2021, Shakoure was released from Bergen County Jail where he spent 219 days under threat of deportation to a country in which he has never lived.

While we celebrate his release, he is not free from deportation.
You can help Shakoure NOW! Call Governor Cuomo to demand that he pardons Shakoure: https://act.newmode.net/action/mpower-change/call-cuomo-pardonshakoure

Shakoure's story is also not unique. Other Black immigrants, like Ousman Darboe and Karim Golding, are also at risk of deportation! This illustrates the compounding effects of anti-Blackness, Islamophobia, and xenophobia in our immigration enforcement system.

We are grateful to the Monarch Awards Foundation, Inc. for their continued support. Thank you for being part of the UAO family.

Here are some throwback pictures from when 25 our our families were blessed with Thanksgiving Food boxes as part of the Foundation's Annual Community Feeding Program. Each box had a 10-15 lb. turkey, along with fresh produce, milk, bread, a dessert, and other food items.

We even captured our brilliant Family Support Services coordinator, Mirabel, as she was putting together boxes.

ICE Deported Cameroonian Immigrants Despite Protests and Congressional Intervention

Seeking asylum is an internationally-recognized human right, yet far too many Black asylum seekers are denied due process, locked in detention, and eventually deported. @DHS_Secretary must address racism in the asylum system and transform it towards justice! #Act4BlackImms

ICE deported around 100 Cameroonian and Congolese immigrants despite months of public backlash. Many of those deported had strong cases for asylum.
