The Network is a collaborative membership organization dedicated to improving the lives of those impacted by domestic violence through education, public policy and advocacy, and the connection of community members to direct service providers.

Start Anew is hosting a one-day clinic for survivors of Human Trafficking, Domestic Violence, and Sexual Abuse on September 18th.

This clinic is designed to meet the immediate needs of survivors and includes wrap-around and job-readiness services to empower survivors with the opportunity to move forward and begin again.

Along with the clinic services, participants will also be provided with lunch and Hope Bags filled with personal care items and supporter donations.

There's a new law taking effect on January 1st 2027 to help survivor of domestic violence who experience financial hardships. This legislation opens pathways to help survivors become free of debt they were coerced into taking on.

ABC 7 Chicago covered the law and what it means for survivors who have experienced economic abuse that has led to a credit agency contacting them.

80% of women in substance abuse treatment are also survivors of some form of gender-based violence.

There are multiple factors that contribute to this rate from the vulnerability of people experiencing substance misuse, the fact that survivors may use substances to cope with their abuse, and how some survivors are coerced into using substances by their abusers.

It's important to remember that substance use and chemical dependence can increase the severity of injuries and lethality of domestic violence.

As part of their Perfect Storm series, City Bureau just published an article bringing to light the issues domestic violence service providers and survivors of domestic violence are facing due to federal budget cuts.

With a rise in contacts to the Illinois Domestic Violence Hotline since the COVID-19 pandemic, and a lack of available shelter beds, it's never been more clear how critical funding for gender-based violence service providers is.

We continue to urge Chicago and Cook County to protect survivors by investing in domestic violence services and initiatives as budget season begins.

Today is National Women's Equality Day!

On August 26th 1920, the United States adopted the 19th amendment, giving women the right to vote.

Today we celebrate all the progress we've made towards creating a more equal and just world for all genders.

However, the fight for equality did not end at voting rights. Women still experience disproportionate amounts of violence, with almost half of all women in the US experiencing psychological aggression from an intimate partner.

Our September 40-Hour Domestic Violence Training is coming up! Running from September 14th to October 2nd.

This training is required for all new domestic violence professionals, including volunteers and interns in the state of Illinois.

The training is also open to anyone who would like to learn how to address domestic violence in their own communities.

The training is free for employees of all IDHS funded DV/SA agencies. Reduced pricing is available for volunteers, students, and Network partner organizations.

Attendees who complete all ten trainings will receive the 40-Hour DV Training Certificate of Completion. LCSW, LSW, LCPC, and LCP CEU's are available upon completion of all sessions.

Chicago Community Commission for Safety and Accountability is holding community listening sessions as part of their search for a new superintendent for the CPD.

This is an opportunity for survivors and GBV service providers to make their voices heard, and advocate for leadership that prioritizes CPD's responses to GBV.
