Every day, our shelter offers safety, stability, and compassionate care for up to 70 men experiencing homelessness. But what happens after they walk through our doors is what truly transforms lives.

Our dedicated team works alongside each resident to create a personalized path toward permanent housing. Whether it's recovery services, case management, mental health care, employment support, creative therapies, or simply the encouragement of people who believe in their potential, we help men rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

Tomorrow, July 16th is the official day of giving, but why wait? Donated today and help us build momentum. Your gift could be the one that inspires someone else to help!

A bed is important. But it's only the beginning.

When men come to North Side Housing and Supportive Services, they're not just looking for a safe place to sleep—they're looking for a chance to rebuild their lives.

That's why we do so much more than provide shelter. We offer nutritious meals, recovery support, case management, art therapy, employment resources, and everyday essentials that help restore dignity and hope.

Since opening our new shelter in December 2024, we've welcomed **277 men**, provided more than **36,100 nights of shelter**, and served nearly **108,000 meals**. Every one of those numbers represents someone taking steps toward a brighter future.

We're proud to be part of **Hope for Homes Day**, a statewide day of giving that helps organizations like ours continue this life-changing work.

If you believe everyone deserves the opportunity to find their way home, we hope you'll join us.

đź’™ Together, we can make a real difference.

What does freedom look like?

As our nation celebrates 250 years of independence, it's worth remembering that for too many of our neighbors, even the simplest freedoms are out of reach.

For men experiencing homelessness, everyday choices many of us take for granted—clean socks, fresh underwear, a warm hat, a towel after a shower, or a reliable pair of shoes—can make all the difference. These aren't luxuries. They're the basics that restore dignity, confidence, and a sense of normalcy.

This summer, you can help provide those essentials.

We're collecting new towels, underwear, hats, shoes, and socks for the men staying at our shelter. Every donation is a reminder that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.

Shopping is easy—purchase items from Amazon or your favorite retailer and have them shipped directly to us. Visit our website to view our wishlist and see exactly what's needed.

Together, let's honor America's 250th birthday by helping ensure freedom includes dignity for everyone.

At Northside Housing we know that people can't "pull themselves up by their boot straps" if they don't have bootstraps.

We help residents by giving them the chance to stop fighting for survival every day and think about next steps. From bootstraps (or sneakers!) to basic hygiene items, we know next steps start when the basics are taken care of.

Check out the link in our bio and donate new basic necessities like good shoes and new underwear as part of our Red, White & Blue clothing drive.

As America gets ready to mark its 250th birthday, we’re reminded that freedom means more than history; it also means dignity, opportunity, and normalcy in everyday life. Sadly, freedom for homeless people in Chicagoland is profoundly compromised.

A homeless person sleeping on a public bench will often be told by the police to move. People who live in tents in the parks will usually have them confiscated. Unlike all of us, they don’t have a choice about what foods they eat and what clothes they can wear.

Because everyone deserves the essentials that help them feel normal, confident and ready for the day ahead, we’re collecting new towels, underwear, hats, shoes, and socks for men experiencing homelessness at our life-changing shelter.

Join us in celebrating America’s milestone birthday by giving something practical, meaningful, and deeply human.

You can purchase these or similar items from Amazon or your preferred retailer and have them delivered right to our door. Helping couldn’t be any easier! Check out the wishlist on our website for specifics. https://www.northsidehousing.org/red-white-and-blue

Join us on Friday, June 19, for Melodies that Matter, our second annual student-led benefit concert supporting North Side Housing and Supportive Services.

Last year, we were inspired by a talented group of young musicians who came together to raise funds and awareness for our work. This year, graduating high school senior Rachel George is once again leading the effort, bringing together friends and fellow performers for an evening of music, community, and impact.

All proceeds from the event will support our shelter and housing programs for men experiencing homelessness. Through their talent and dedication, these young student musicians are helping provide shelter, meals, apartment hunting support, and other essential services for people working to rebuild their lives.

Our shelter clients come to us at many stages of life. While homelessness among seniors is on the rise young men can face even more challenges. Young men are subject to higher rates of violence, difficulty getting new jobs due to negative stereotypes, and face significant barriers to the services they need to secure future success in life like education, mental health care, and substance abuse treatment.

Meet Germaine T. At 22, he had dropped out of college and was facing a host of challenges when he moved into our shelter in December 2024.

As is often the case, a series of traumatic events resulted in this smart, young man becoming homeless. He endured a house fire in 2023, a gunshot wound in 2024, and the unexpected deaths of his mother from cancer and his sister in a car accident in 2025. Germaine says losing his mom and his sister last year took him to a “very dark place,” but as the third oldest of nine, he was determined to be the big brother his siblings needed.

Check out our website for Germaine's full story.
