Prior to joining ACI full-time, Claire worked as a Trauma Therapist at the YWCA Metropolitan Chicago, providing therapy to survivors of sexual violence and their families. Claire joined ACI as a Home Study Worker in April 2018. In October 2021, Claire began working full-time at ACI as an Adoption Specialist, overseeing the international home study program, and continuing to provide home study services. In her current role Claire is the Clinical Director and Therapist of ACI’s Therapeutic Services Program and oversees the international home study program. Adoption has been an important part of Claire’s life, as her younger sister was adopted from China as an infant. Announcing the Launch of ACI’s Therapeutic Services Program!

The Therapeutic Services Program (TSP) launches today! TSP offers a range of services, including adoption-competent individual and family therapy, and support groups. We will be offering services both here in our Chicago office as well as virtually.

Adoption is a lifelong journey with its share of joys and challenges. ACI’s new TSP program is designed to enhance the support systems offered to our adoption community. As an adoption agency, we possess a valuable understanding of the complete adoption process: equipping us to offer a more holistic and comprehensive perspective. We are excited to expand our mission and provide the adoption-competent support that the adoption community needs and deserves.

ACI’s Therapeutic Services Program is available to anyone impacted by adoption.

We are so excited to be a part of OYFF Birth Parent Alliance! It’s truly what all of our birth families deserve!

We are thrilled to welcome to the Birthparent Support Alliance, and this week had the pleasure of speaking with Molly Berger, MSW, adoption social worker, and Pam Brown, expectant parent counselor, to talk about ACI’s model of adoption, The Extended Family Network, and how it moves adoption past the model of ‘open’ versus ‘closed’, and instead creates a new paradigm for how we can understand, and build stronger adoption constellation relationships. Dear ACI Community

I wish to announce effective October 1, 2024, I will be stepping down from my role as Executive Director.

I am delighted to announce Teresa Bernu, our Associate Director, will be the new Executive Director. I know she is the right choice and we are both looking forward to working together for a smooth transition!

I just celebrated my 34th anniversary with ACI, and as I have since January of 1990, I will continue my dedication to ACI. After October, I will remain with ACI as a full-time staff member focusing on our International adoption services. It’s been an amazing personal and professional journey with more memorable moments than I’ll ever be able to count. Helping Children through Adoption is definitely a part of my DNA!

Our upcoming Gala at Ravinia on April 20, 2024, will be my last Gala as Executive Director. This year we will be honoring birthparents with board member Justine Yarus as our Gala chair. I hope you will join me as we celebrate ACI, its history, and everything to come. We have so much to be grateful for and to celebrate!
