Austin Coming Together

Austin Coming Together We are a CONNECTOR, CONVENER, and FACILITATOR of collaborative efforts to support Austin residents.

Austin Coming Together (ACT)’s mission is to facilitate the collective impact of 50+ members and hundreds of partners to improve the quality of life in Chicago's Austin community. Since 2010, we’ve been connecting residents to services, attracting investments for the community, and building capacity for policy change. Recently, the pandemic made long-standing challenges even worse. But we mobilize

d resources to address growing needs, from food, laptop, or PPE distributions and vaccine access, to advocacy for racial equity. ACT has helped Austin become a United Way Neighborhood Network, where ACT leads a community hub initiative to develop a referral network of service providers that help maximize social supports for Austin residents.

Today, we want to highlight one of the returning recipients of our Austin Eats Culinary Entrepreneur Grant: Chef Ali Kleiche, founder of Mafunzo International Fitness and Kitchen! As both a chef and a personal trainer, Ali is passionate about empowering his community with the knowledge and resources to live healthier, more balanced lives. At the core of his business is a commitment to holistic wellness - that means nourishing the body, mind, and spirit.

Chef Ali places a strong emphasis on using organic, locally-sourced ingredients, using an abundance of fresh produce from his own garden in his cooking. As a certified personal trainer, he integrates fitness and nutrition coaching into his programs, working closely with clients to develop customized exercise routines and meal plans that cater to their individual needs and goals.

Last year, Mafunzo participated as a vendor at the Austin Town Hall Farmers Market and provided a food demo as well.

Follow them at Mafunzo International Fitness & Kitchen to learn more about their food and services.
