Did you know the expression "the dog days of summer" dates back to the ancient Greeks and Romans?

It refers to the "dog star" Sirius, which the ancient Greeks and Romans noted typically appeared alongside the sun to mark the start of the hottest days of the year in July and August, where it felt too hot to do much of anything.

We are well into the dog days of summer here, and whatever you wind up doing on these hot summer days, we have the resources to help you stay safe if not necessarily cool: https://safety-security.uchicago.edu/safety-resources

The annual Chicago Caribbean Carnival and parade is scheduled for Saturday, August 15. The parade and festival will bring some parking restrictions and street closures along the Midway.

Both Dorchester and Woodlawn Avenues will be closed from 59th to 60th Street from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and the Midway Plaisance will be closed between Woodlawn and Dorchester all of Saturday.

The festival will also affect the Central Route for UGo NightRide Shuttle Service.

To avoid street closures, UGo Shuttles on the Central Route will be temporarily rerouted and travel down Stony Island to 60th Street, where they will turn right onto 60th Street to resume the regular route.
