The company is happy to announce the delivery today of a new Command Vehicle. The vehicle will be rotated through each line officer who will respond to emergency calls with the department. The company would like to thank Representative Bill Carson and Senator Kyra Hoffner for their support in obtaining the funding for this vehicle.

Blast from the Past!!

Pictures from the 1979 Delaware Volunteer Fireman's Association Parade held in September of 1979 and hosted by the Christiana Fire Co. InNew Castle County. This was the first parade the fire company wore the new dress informs after switching from the tan uniforms the department wore for many years. The fire company was lead by Fire Chief Robert J. Carson. The company was award the trophy for Best Appearing Marching Unit Without a Band. The first picture is of the company banner carried by Jerry Johnson and PC Rodney Whalen. The second picture is of Chief Bobby Carson behind him are left to right AC Bill Timmons, DC Dave Mast, AC William C. Donavon Jr. The 4th picture is Past Chief William R. "Ace" Carrow left and Past Chief James L. Cubbage Jr. Both chiefs Carrow and Cubbage went on to be president of the DVFA. Chief Carrow was in 1983 and Chief Cubbage in 2001.

Rescue 45. Brush 45 and the Duty Truck just cleared assisting the Citizens' Hose Company No. 1 Inc. of Smyrna, DE on an auto accident with a vehicle overturned and subject trapped in the 2100 blk of Smyrna-Leipsic Rd. Crews arrived to find a single vehicle overturned with the operator trapped and live wires down by the vehicle. Extrication was delayed until the electric company could confirm the electric had been secured. Once the electric was secured crews stabilized the vehicle with the tie back system and completed extrication in about 15 minutes. The operator was transported to CER by DSP Aviation. Smyrna AC Keen had the Smyrna Command. The roadway will be closed for an extended period of time. Leipsic Vol. Fire Company Squad 53, American Legion Ambulance Service Station 64 Inc. and Kent County Department of Public Safety Paramedics also responded on the call.

The Duty Truck, Tower 45, Engine 45, Squad 45 and Rescue 45 are currently assisting the Citizens' Hose Company No. 1 Inc. of Smyrna, DE on a working structure fire in the 500 blk of Lake Drive West. Crews arrived to find a 2 story residence with fire on the 1st floor and attic. Three lines were stretched and the fire was brought under control in about 45 minutes. Searches were negative. Crews remained on scene for over an hour for overhaul. Smyrna Chief O'Neal had the Smyrna Command. The Delaware State Fire Marshals Office is investigating. Units from the Leipsic Vol. Fire Company, Hartly Volunteer Fire Company, American Legion Ambulance Service Station 64 Inc. and Kent County Department of Public Safety also responded. Volunteer Hose Co. Quint 1 and Community Fire Company Of Millington,Md Rescue 2 covered the Smyrna/Clayton area.

Last evening at our monthly meeting, the company approved the purchase of a Pierce Enforcer Engine/Tanker. This is a first of its kind piece of apparatus for the company, and we are excited to see its progress, and how it will shape the future of our company, and our surrounding area. We are expecting delivery in 2029.

Some of the apparatus highlights:

2029 Pierce Enforcer Chassis w/ seating for 6
Cummins X15 605 HP w/ Allison 4000
2000 gallons of water w/ a 1500 GPM Waterous
Hose Bed 5’ 10” from the ground
Hose Compliment will be identical to E45
The apparatus will carry normal engine company and water supply equipment.


This apparatus will replace Rescue 45 with has faithfully served the Smyrna/Clayton area for the past 23 years. It will be placed for sale within the next week.
