What a difference a day makes. May was looking like a pretty slow month for home builders, but then we issued 81 permits on Friday alone.

That brought the total up to 304 new homes, a 6% increase compared to May 2025. It's the 2nd busiest month of the year, behind March. (336)

We are now just 1 month away from the Energy Code Change on June 30. Are you ready?

The RBD amendments to the 2021 will go away, plus you'll need to meet the Colorado Model Electric Ready and Solar Ready Codes.

It is your responsibility to know the changes if you are doing work here in the Pikes Peak region.

Happy Friday everyone. In today’s episode of this is why we do inspections…

This electrical install is loaded with code violations, some of which are serious life safety issues.

1. You can’t have an uninsulated, energized service wire connector. It could kill you if you touch it.
2. Without a proper bond screw to ensure a neutral ground bond there is no path for fault current. It opens the possibility for metal parts that aren’t carrying current to become energized. The electrical box itself could become electrified and shock someone.
3. Individual conductors in individual pipes (raceways) are not allowed to enter metal enclosures without additional provisions. Code requires all conductors of the same circuit to be inside the same pipe (raceway).

Pizza Ranch in Colorado Springs is in the home stretch.

Only a few more final inspections to go. So far we've done 47 inspections on this much anticipated remodel project near Austin Bluffs and Academy. It will be the first Pizza Ranch in the Springs.

Happy USAFA Graduation Day. Traffic will be heavy this morning near the Academy and even more so around noon when the Thunderbirds perform.

Did you know our plan review team is one of the busiest teams in the State?

In the month of May alone, 873 new plans have been submitted to our office so far. We average about 225 reviews every day across all disciplines. That means each one of our reviewers is seeing more than 10 plans a day on average depending on the project size.

Despite the recent increase in plans coming in ahead of the June 30 energy code change, we are still turning residential plans around in 2-4 weeks and commercial plans in 3-5 weeks.

I'm a bit biased, but I'd say that's pretty good considering how busy we are. We appreciate your patience.

We’ll kick things off this morning with a big one. The Swire Coca-Cola plant has now permitted.

They broke ground a few months ago and they’ve been moving dirt and prepping the site while the plans get finished, but now construction can finally get started on this massive project.

It’s a $190 Million project located in Peak Innovation Park near the COS Airport. It’s the largest project since the Amazon building in 2020. ($369 million)
