As Franklin County’s only domestic violence shelter, we see firsthand the danger survivors face when an abusive partner has access to a firearm. For us, this is not a political issue. It is a public safety issue and a matter of life and death. In Ohio, 84% of domestic violence homicides involve a firearm. More than half of those offenders had prior involvement with the criminal justice system. Every survivor deserves safety. Abusers should not have access to guns.

The Ohio Supreme Court said a man convicted of domestic violence can seek restoration of his gun rights.

To kick off the summer season, we hosted a carnival for the children staying in our shelter, complete with popcorn, cotton candy, a bouncy house, games and plenty of prizes. There were smiles, laughter and lots of excitement as the kids enjoyed a day filled with fun. Thank you to our wonderful staff and volunteers who helped make this special event possible!

Last year, nearly 40% of all homicides were domestic violence related, according to Columbus police.

Men can also be victims of intimate partner violence. It is estimated that 1 in 4 men will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. At our shelter, all survivors are welcome.
