25 years later, we remember through the stories of those who served.

This special 17-minute video shares firsthand reflections from Salvation Army officers, staff, and volunteers who served in the aftermath of September 11, 2001.

The 17-minute runtime represents the time between the impacts of Flight 11 and Flight 175 into the World Trade Center towers.

Twenty-five years ago, our nation was forever changed.

On September 11, 2001, as tragedy unfolded in New York City, at the Pentagon, and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, The Salvation Army answered the call. Officers, staff, and volunteers mobilized within hours to provide meals, supplies, emotional and spiritual care, and a compassionate presence for first responders, survivors, families, and recovery workers.

And they stayed — serving throughout the long days and months that followed.

Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, we remember the lives lost, honor the courage and sacrifice of those who responded, and reflect on the countless acts of service and compassion that brought people together in the face of unimaginable loss.

Their example continues to remind us what it means to serve others when they need it most.

A safe, stable place to call home can change everything. ❤️

We are grateful to Columbus REALTORS for supporting The Salvation Army’s Permanent Supportive Housing Program in Central Ohio.

Their generous funding will provide direct assistance to individuals and families working toward greater stability, helping with essential needs such as rent, utilities, gas, bus passes, and gas cards.

Support like this helps remove everyday barriers that can make it difficult to maintain stable housing and move forward.

Thank you, Columbus REALTORS®, for investing in our neighbors and helping create pathways toward lasting stability and hope.

We are incredibly grateful to longtime supporters Christian and Donnalynn Laver of Christian Laver & Associates, whose connection to the Million Dollar Round Table Foundation helped create a valuable grant opportunity for The Salvation Army in Central Ohio.

Through this opportunity, The Salvation Army received a $6,000 grant to support survivors of human trafficking. Thanks to the generosity of two additional donors who matched the grant dollar for dollar, that impact was tripled to $18,000.

These funds will help provide critical resources and services for individuals exiting trafficking situations as they work toward healing, stability, and a safe, hopeful future.

Thank you to Christian and Donnalynn, Million Dollar Round Table Foundation and our generous matching donors for investing in survivors and helping make this important work possible.

The floodwaters are receding. The need is not.

Across Central Ohio, families are beginning the difficult work of cleanup and recovery following recent flooding. The Salvation Army is providing food, water, and cleanup supplies to residents in a flood-impacted neighborhood along Blacklick Creek while working alongside local emergency management and community partners.

"When disasters strike, our mission is simple: meet human needs with compassion and practical support," said Jordan Yost, Social Ministries Manager for The Salvation Army in Central Ohio. "As families begin the difficult process of recovery from these floods, we are committed to standing alongside them."

Behind the Shield 🛡️ | A Safe Place to Learn, Grow & Belong

For families facing financial challenges, access to safe, enriching opportunities for their children can make all the difference.

That’s exactly what our Learning Center provides — a place where children can learn, build confidence and thrive.

Recently, our team was invited to the NBC4 Columbus Living studio to share this important work with Central Ohio.

Thank you to NBC4 and Columbus Living for helping shine a light on what’s happening Behind the Shield. ❤️

A big thank you to Momentum-Excellence for bringing the joy of dance to our Learning Center last week! ❤️

Our kiddos had the opportunity to move, learn, laugh, and express themselves through dance, and as you can see, they had a blast!

Not every child has access to activities that foster creativity, confidence, and healthy development. Partnerships like Momentum help make those opportunities possible for the children we serve at The Salvation Army Learning Center through the power of movement and creative expression.

Volunteers make hope possible. ❤️

As we prepare for our busy fall and winter season, we're looking for caring individuals and groups who want to make a difference for our neighbors in Central Ohio. Whether you're helping distribute food, supporting holiday programs, assisting at community events, or ringing the bells during Red Kettle season, there's a place for you to serve.

Every hour you give helps bring hope to neighbors when they need it most.

Because of you, a little change made a big difference. ❤ Thanks to the generosity of many donors, we were able to raise over $40,000 through our Give a Little Change a Lot summer campaign!

We are grateful to our incredible Red Kettle volunteers and our valued community partners and sponsors, including Kroger, Walmart, Atlas Butler Heating, Cooling & Plumbing, and Jet's Pizza, for spreading hope throughout Central Ohio this summer.

Every dollar raised will help provide meals for seniors, mentor children, support families in crisis, shelter veterans and offer hope to neighbors when they need it most. Your generosity proves that even the smallest act of kindness can create lasting change.

Together, we showed that a little truly can change a lot.
