Earlier today our Summer Achievers students visited Highland Youth Garden, where they picked a variety of fresh vegetables to take home with them. Located in the Hilltop, the Highland Youth Garden provides a hands-on learning environment for children interested in learning more about growing food. Our students picked peppers, tomatoes, raspberries, and more, and they all got to take home their very own sunflower plants! 🌻

After exploring the garden, they headed indoors to make salsa and guacamole using some of the fresh produce they picked. We're so grateful to the Highland Youth Garden for helping our students learn more about sustainable food practices during this deliciously educational visit!

We are incredibly grateful to have been featured as the nonprofit of choice for GADS Gives Back, a charitable initiative of the Government Affairs Directors' (GAD) Institute annual professional development conference, held last week in downtown Columbus. This National Association of REALTORS® conference serves as an important professional development opportunity for staff employed or contracted by state and local REALTORS® associations.

The event gave us the opportunity to share our mission with a large group of community-minded individuals passionate about advocacy, and we greatly appreciated their time and their generosity. Our President & CEO, Beth Fetzer-Rice, spoke with attendees, as did our Board of Trustees Chair, Stephanie Couhig, and our Vice President of Advancement & Continuous Improvement, Andrew Snouffer. Our Canine Companions Facility Dog, Tatum, also made an appearance! Thank you, NAR Advocacy, for featuring us and amplifying our reach! Together, we are making a difference in the lives of those working to overcome housing insecurity.

Today, we celebrated HFF's 40th birthday with a "mini birthday bash" for our staff and Summer Achievers program! 🎉 After some lunch, we celebrated with cool treats from Kona Ice and a foam party. We finished the afternoon with a special HFF birthday cake lovingly created by Brittany, one of our Dowd Education program staff members! 🎂 Special thanks to our longtime supporter and friend, Bob, for supporting the festivities! 🌞

Today, some of our students worked with Scouts leader Mr. Ali on a few different craft projects designed to foster creativity and practice with using colors in patterns. Our students created their very own name bracelets using alphabet beads and beads in two of their favorite colors. Then, they used Shrinky D***s (plastic sheets you can draw on, color, and bake) to create personalized necklaces and keychains. We're grateful for Mr. Ali for working with our students on a variety of projects that inspire critical thinking skills and creativity!

Join us in wishing our beloved Facility Dog, Tatum, a happy fourth birthday! Tatum was provided to us free of charge by Canine Companions, and she is expertly trained to provide therapeutic comfort, anxiety relief, and motivation to help clients heal from housing trauma. Tatum has engaged with about 400 adults and children this year through her various endeavors. Make no bones about it -- we're so grateful to have her on our team. Happy birthday, Tatum!
