A national petition for the acquittal of Zé Maria, national president of the PSTU (Unified Socialist Workers' Party) of Brazil, is now online.

The initiative comes in response to the absurd sentence of two years in prison imposed on the leader by the Federal Court of São Paulo, due to a speech delivered in 2023 in defense of the Palestinian people and denouncing the genocide carried out by the State of Israel.

This is a ruling with no legal basis, the result of a strong Zionist lobby that seeks to turn internationalist solidarity and the denunciation of crimes against a people into a motive for political persecution. A tactic that aims to confuse "antisemitism" (hatred of the Jewish people) with "antizionism" (denunciation of the racist and genocidal Israeli regime).

The manifesto warns that this attack is not only against a political leader, but against all those who stand up in defense of Palestine and against injustices.
