🚨 Bad Decisions Have Consequences! 🚨

Last night, Converse Police officers responded to the 8600 block of FM 78 after a vehicle struck a bicyclist and fled the scene.

Thankfully, a nurse stopped to render first aid and stayed with the victim until Converse Fire & EMS arrived. We also want to recognize a witness who followed the suspect vehicle, photographed the license plate, and provided officers with its location and direction of travel. That information helped officers locate and stop the vehicle in the 9100 block of FM 78. 👏

Following the investigation, Jenifer Lynn was arrested and charged with Intoxication Assault with a Vehicle–Serious Bodily Injury, Collision Involving Injury, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

To the person who thought drinking and driving was a good idea: It wasn't. And fleeing the scene definitely didn't make it better. 🚔

To everyone else: If you've been drinking, don't drive. Call a friend, call a rideshare, call somebody. Just don't get behind the wheel. A ride home is cheaper than an ambulance, an arrest, or a life-changing crash. Please, don’t make us come find you. We have enough paperwork.

Seriously, drinking and driving can turn a bad decision into a tragedy in seconds. “I only had a few” is not a defense we recommend testing on FM 78, or any road.

Today, we’re celebrating K9 Fury, K9 Spyro, and K9 Yuma, the four-legged members of the Converse Police Department who prove that you can be adorable AND tough on crime! 💪

These hardworking K9s help our officers apprehend suspects, locate dangerous individuals, and sniff out large quantities of illegal drugs. 🐕🚔

They may love treats and belly rubs, but when it’s time to work, they’re all business! 🦴😎

🚨 TRAFFIC SAFETY ALERT FM 3502 & FM 78 🚨

Overnight, officers responded to a major single-vehicle rollover crash involving a vehicle fire at FM 3502/Kneupper Rd and FM 78. The driver was evaluated by EMS and later arrested for DWI.

The crash damaged traffic lights and roadway signage. The traffic signals will be flashing red until repairs are completed. Please treat the intersection as a four-way stop, come to a complete stop, and use extra caution.

Please drive safely and remember: don’t drink and drive.

FM 1516 at Weichold Road is temporarily closed due to a traffic accident. There are no major injuries reported at this time.

Please avoid the area and use an alternate route while first responders work to clear the roadway.

Update: 07:50 the roadway had reopened.

FM 1516 at Binz-Engleman is currently impacted by a disabled 18-wheeler blocking the intersection.

Please expect delays, use caution in the area, and consider an alternate route if possible. Crews are working to clear the roadway.

🚨 Public Safety Notice 🚨

There is currently a large first responder presence in the 8900 block of Westcreek due to a residential structure fire.

There is no threat to the public at this time. Firefighters and other first responders will remain in the area for a while longer as they continue operations.

Please use caution if traveling through the area and give emergency personnel plenty of room to work.

Converse Police Department’s K9 Fury to get donation of body armor

Converse Police Department, TX - K9 Fury will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Fury’s vest was sponsored by the Virginia L. Stoner Huguenard Endowment Fund of Corunna, IN and will be embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of Virginia L. Stoner Huguenard”. Delivery is expected within ten weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and National Institute of Justice (NIJ) certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 6,631 vests valued at $6.9 million to K9s in all 50 states, made possible by both private and corporate donations.

The program is open to U.S. dogs at least 20 months old, actively employed, and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $1,050 will sponsor one vest. Each vest has a value of $1800.00, weighs an average of 4-5 lbs., and comes with a five-year warranty. For more information, or to learn about volunteer opportunities, please call (508) 824-6978. Keeping our community clean and orderly is a shared responsibility. A vehicle may be considered junked if it:

• Has expired or missing license plates or registration
• Is wrecked, dismantled, or heavily damaged
• Is inoperable for more than 72 hours on public property
• Is inoperable for more than 30 days on private property
• Attracts vandalism or contributes to urban blight

If you have a vehicle that may meet these criteria, please address it promptly to help prevent violations and maintain a clean community. 🏠

We were thankful to welcome Angel Ali, better known as “ChefBoy Ali,” and his wife, Hollie, to the Converse Police Department. Angel and Hollie fired up the grill and generously donated their time, food, and effort to BBQ a meal for our officers.

Angel is a proud U.S. Army veteran who has found a passion for cooking and giving back to his community. We are incredibly grateful for the support and generosity they showed our department.

Angel, thank you for your service to our country. And to both Angel and Hollie, thank you for spending your time with us and supporting Converse PD!

Gestures like this are a wonderful reminder of the strong relationship we share with our community. We truly appreciate you both! 👮‍♂️🔥
